Applications of Sr Isotopes in Archaeology
2011The inclusion of radiogenic strontium isotope (87Sr/86Sr) analysis in archaeological and bioarchaeological research has resulted in the creation of new data by which to evaluate models of migration, culture change, colonization, trade, and exchange. Overwhelmingly, archaeologists have used radiogenic strontium isotope signatures in human enamel and ...

Review of High-Precision Sr Isotope Analyses of Low-Sr Geological Samples
Journal of Earth Science, 2015Isotope plays an important role in both tracing and dating in earth science, especially 87Rb-86Sr system. With the development of earth science, whole-rock analysis can’t sufficiently meet the requirements for scientific research and the micro-analysis becomes more and more significant.

Precision KRbSr isotopic analysis: Application to RbSr chronology
Chemical Geology, 1986Abstract A new ion-exchange separation procedure is described for the isolation of Sr from Ca. It has been designed to give reproducible results with only approximately known reagent concentrations. Evaporation during storage is not critical and may easily be checked with a common pH paper. The medium is buffered by pyridine in the range pH 5–6. The

Sr isotope measurements in beef—analytical challenge and first results
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2012The strontium isotope ratio ((87)Sr/(86)Sr) in beef, derived from 206 European cattle, has been measured. These cattle were located in 12 different European regions within France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK. As animal protein is known to be a difficult material on which to conduct Sr isotope analysis, several investigations were ...

In situ Sr isotopic analysis of low Sr silicates using LA-ICP-MS
Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 2009We have developed a LA-ICP-MS technique for the in situ determination of 87Sr/86Sr in silicates having low Sr concentrations (30–400 µg g−1). Because of its high sensitivity we used a single collector sector-field ICP-MS, which was combined with a 193 nm Nd:YAG laser ablation system. Experiments were performed using the fast electrical scan mode (0.1 s

Episodic mantle differentiation: Nd and Sr isotopic evidence
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1980A study of Nd and Sr isotopic composition of clinopyroxenes separated from two hydrous and four anhydrous ultramafic nodules is presented. Correlation of Nd-143/Nd-144 with Sm/Nd suggests that a second partial melting occurred about 560 m.y. ago resulting in LREE enrichment of a part of the anhydrous mantle. The isotopic data for anhydrous nodules show

Sr and Nd isotopic systematics of Shergotty meteorite
Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1986Abstract Strontium and neodymium isotopic measurements are reported on mineral separates, whole rock samples, and their leachates and residues of Shergotty meteorite. A very large variation of the Sm Nd ratio in the phosphates of Shergotty is observed. Two sources of Nd are observed which are not mixed completely within Shergotty, resulting in

Equilibrated Nd–unequilibrated Sr isotopes in mantle xenoliths
Nature, 1980Isotopic analyses of mantle xenoliths transported to the surface by alkali basalt eruptions complement data obtained from studying basic magmas. These xenoliths also enable mantle characteristics to be examined before they have been affected by the fractionation processes which occur during magma genesis.

Rb‐Sr geochronology and Sr isotopic composition of Devonian granitoids, eastern Tasmania
Journal of the Geological Society of Australia, 1982Abstract Biotite igneous ages and well‐defined isochron ages of plutons from the composite Blue Tier Batholith and the Coles Bay area in northeastern Tasmania range from 395 to 370 Ma. The older limit of this range, for the George River granodiorite, is considerably older than any age previously recorded for NE Tasmania.

In situ Sr isotopic analysis by laser ablation
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1995We demonstrate that the Sr isotopic compositions of geological materials can be measured in situ through laser ablation using an ICP multiple-collector double focusing magnetic sector mass spectrometer (MC-ICPMS). This provides rapid, texturally sensitive, high precision (0.004%) Sr isotopic analysis without the need for chemical preparation of samples.
