Dietary effects on the retina of hamsters. [PDF]

open access: yesFASEB J
Western‐type diet increased in hamsters the levels of their blood total cholesterol (TC) and HDL as well as the heterogeneity of their blood HDL subpopulations HDL2 (yellow circles) and HDL3 (green circles). Western‐type diet also affected the expression of various retinal proteins and perhaps some retinal processes that are mediated by these proteins.

Overweight Leads to an Increase in Vitamin E Absorption and Status in Mice. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Nutr Food Res
Mice fed a high‐fat diet for 12 weeks showed higher vitamin E status and more efficient absorption than control mice. Scope This study investigates whether vitamin E (VE) deficiency in subjects with obesity could, at least partly, be due to a defect in VE intestinal absorption.

Investigating the effects of 7‐ketocholesterol on retinal pigment epithelium bioenergetics

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 37, Issue 7, July 2023., 2023
Non‐lethal doses of 7KC demonstrated a statistically significant dose‐dependent increase in total ATP production rates driven primarily by an increase in glycolysis. There was no change in specific electron transport chain activity. 7KC‐treated cells also demonstrated an increase in mitochondrial fission and change in cellular morphology with decreased

Ultrathin Al1−x Sc x N for Low‐Voltage‐Driven Ferroelectric‐Based Devices

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
The scalability of ferroelectric wurtzite‐type thin films down to 10 nm thickness is confirmed, based on epitaxial Al0.72Sc0.28N. The absence of major scaling effects in coercive field and permittivity promises the possibility of further miniaturization.

Differentially Expressed Hepatic Genes Revealed by Transcriptomics in Pigs with Different Liver Lipid Contents

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The liver is the center for uptake, synthesis, packaging, and secretion of lipids and lipoproteins. The research on lipid metabolism in pigs is limited. The objective of the present study is to identify the genes related to lipid metabolism and oxidative stress in pigs by using transcriptomic analysis.

Effects of Dietary Lipid Levels on the Lipid Deposition and Metabolism of Subadult Triploid Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
A growth trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary lipid levels on the lipid deposition and metabolism of subadult triploid rainbow trout. Diets with low (148 g lipid kg-1 diet), moderate (228 g lipid kg-1 diet), and high (294 g lipid kg-1 diet) crude lipid contents were fed to quadruplicated groups of fish (233 g ± 0.2 g) for 80 days, and

Control System Development and Implementation of a CNC Laser Engraver for Environmental Use with Remote Imaging

open access: yesComputational Intelligence and Neuroscience, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
This article is aimed at studying the features of the control systems development for a small‐sized Computer Numerical Control (CNC) portative laser engraver. The CNC is implemented in mobile maintenance and repair platforms for remote sensing of the environment where the wild environment may not allow us to access the animals and places.

Anisotropic Dirac fermions in a Bi square net of SrMnBi2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We report the highly anisotropic Dirac fermions in a Bi square net of SrMnBi2, based on a first principle calculation, angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and quantum oscillations for high-quality single crystals.

Initiation of hepatitis C virus infection is dependent on cholesterol and cooperativity between CD81 and scavenger receptor B type I. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the past several years, a number of cellular proteins have been identified as candidate entry receptors for hepatitis C virus (HCV) by using surrogate models of HCV infection.
