Systematic Analysis of Clinical Outcomes Following Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Central Neurocytoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Central neurocytoma (CN) typically presents as an intraventricular mass causing obstructive hydrocephalus. The first line of treatment is surgical resection with adjuvant conventional radiotherapy.

Single-Step Genome-Wide Association Study for Resistance to Piscirickettsia salmonis in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2019
One of the main pathogens affecting rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) farming is the facultative intracellular bacteria Piscirickettsia salmonis. Current treatments, such as antibiotics and vaccines, have not had the expected effectiveness in field ...

A complex adaptive systems approach to the kinetic folding of RNA

open access: yes, 2005
The kinetic folding of RNA sequences into secondary structures is modeled as a complex adaptive system, the components of which are possible RNA structural rearrangements (SRs) and their associated bases and base pairs. RNA bases and base pairs engage in

Phase I Study of Ipilimumab Combined with Whole Brain Radiation Therapy or Radiosurgery for Melanoma Patients with Brain Metastases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: We performed a phase I study to determine the maximum tolerable dose (MTD) and safety of ipilimumab with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) in patients with brain metastases (BM) from melanoma.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Self-recruiting species (SRS) from farmer managed aquatic systems: are they important to the livelihoods of rural communities? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Why are SRS important? The answer is to be found in this well-structured survey under: SRS as food source; SRS as additional source of cash income; Role of SRS in social capital.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Low-versus high-dose aspirin for venous thromboembolic prophylaxis after total joint arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background The adverse effects of aspirin are dose-dependent, and there is controversy surrounding the use of low-dose (LD) aspirin to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). This meta-analysis sought to compare the

Strongly coupled large-angle stimulated Raman scattering of short laser pulses in plasma-filled capillaries

open access: yes, 2005
Strongly coupled large-angle stimulated Raman scattering (LA SRS) of a short intense laser pulse proceeds in a plane plasma-filled capillary differently than in a plasma with open boundaries. Oblique mirror reflections off capillary walls partly suppress

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...
