Concept for the X-SAR/SRTM data utilization
IEEE 1999 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. IGARSS'99 (Cat. No.99CH36293), 2003With the X-SAR/SRTM Mission for the first time a high resolution digital elevation model of all landmasses between +60/spl deg/ and -58/spl deg/ will be generated. DLR will process its model in a timeframe of 2 years after the mission, which is scheduled for September 1999.

The SRTM Data “Finishing” Process and Products
Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing, 2006The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) successfully acquired terrain elevation data for 80 percent of the Earth’s landmass in February 2000. The radar system and data collection scheme designed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) met the global requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense for Level 2 Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED ® )

Field experiments synchronous with SRTM flights
IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002A national coordinated program was evolved to utilise SRTM data for applications to Earth sciences, hydrology and technology development. The project was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Fourteen test sites covering the above themes spread all over India were selected for conducting synchronous field experiments ...

Terrain characterization using SRTM data
Journal of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, 2010Earth’s surface possesses relief because the geomorphic processes operate at different rates, and geologic structure plays a dominant role in the evolution of landforms (Thornbury, 1954). The spatial pattern of relief yields the topographic mosaic of a terrain and is normally extracted from the topographical maps which are available at various scales ...

The SRTM sub-arcsecond metrology camera
2001 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.01TH8542), 2002To achieve the necessary interferometric baseline for the recent Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), an outboard radar antenna was deployed using a 60 meter mast from a main radar antenna in the shuttle payload bay. The mast had dominant flexible modes around 0.1 Hz with tip displacements on the order of several centimeters in response to shuttle ...

Operating the X-band SAR interferometer of the SRTM
IGARSS 2000. IEEE 2000 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Taking the Pulse of the Planet: The Role of Remote Sensing in Managing the Environment. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37120), 2002The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) is the first single pass SAR (synthetic aperture radar) interferometer in space; it has been flown on board the Space Shuttle in February 2000. The mission objective was to acquire a radar data set during this 11 day mission which allows one to generate a new consistent and more accurate global digital ...

SRTM DEM and its application advances
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2011The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) provides for the first time a near-global high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) with great advantages of homogeneous quality and free availability. The last 10 years or so have seen rapid advances in the data processing and applications of SRTM DEM.

X-SAR/SRTM instrument phase error calibration
IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002Before starting the operational processing of all the acquired X-SAR interferometric SAR data from the SRTM mission, the calibration of deterministic phase errors as far as possible is necessary. Besides the phase errors caused by the shuttle and mast dynamic variations and the position and attitude inaccuracy, there are phase errors originating from ...

Preparing an urban test site for SRTM data validation
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2002In this paper, we describe a method to obtain a reliable set of elevation data suitable for data validation on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), starting from laser scanning measurements on an urban test site: Pavia, Northern Italy. The elevation dataset is obtained through extraction of digital terrain models.
