Image Quality Metrics: PSNR vs. SSIM

2010 20th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2010
In this paper, we analyse two well-known objective image quality metrics, the peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) as well as the structural similarity index measure (SSIM), and we derive a simple mathematical relationship between them which works for various kinds of image degradations such as Gaussian blur, additive Gaussian white noise, jpeg and ...

On SSIM-bit rate comparison of HEVC encoders

2015 Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Summit and Conference (APSIPA), 2015
The popular Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) index has shown to be a good perceptual criterion for testing and optimizing video encoders such as the MPEG-H/H.265 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). However, it is still unclear how to compare two HEVC encoders with a number of bit rates and SSIM values.

A MS-SSIM Optimal JPEG 2000 Encoder

2009 Data Compression Conference, 2009
In this work, we present a SSIM optimal JPEG 2000 rate allocation algorithm. However, our aim is less improving the visual performance of JPEG 2000, but more the study of the performance of the SSIM full reference metric by means beyond correlation measurements.Full reference image quality metrics assign a quality index to a pair of a reference and ...

SSIM-Inspired Perceptual Video Coding for HEVC

2012 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2012
Recent advances in video capturing and display technologies, along with the exponentially increasing demand of video services, challenge the video coding research community to design new algorithms able to significantly improve the compression performance of the current H.264/AVC standard.

Paper Form Image Recognition Based on SSIM

Proceedings of the 2019 3rd International Conference on Management Engineering, Software Engineering and Service Sciences, 2019
This paper introduces a method of filling information recognition for scanned image of paper form. The cross point coordinates are extracted by Strip-like corrosion and expansion of the binary images. The form image base frame is constructed using a rectangular fit based on the Hough transform.

Image Quality Assessment Based on SIFT and SSIM

2014
Image quality assessment (IQA) aims to provide computational models to measure the image quality consistently with subjective assessments. The SSIM index brings IQA from pixel-based to structure-based stage. In this paper, a new similarity index based on SIFT features (SIFT-SSIM) for full reference IQA is presented.
