Seasonal Gut Microbiome Variation Associated With Both Climate and Wildlife Tourism in Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We provide an early description of the gut microbiome of wild, free‐ranging Asian elephants (Elephas maximus). Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon data from 123 fecal samples collected across 6 months in two Sri Lankan national parks, we found that gut microbiome composition varied significantly by sampling month and, to a lesser extent, by park.
