Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from SSM/I using a variational method
IGARSS '98. Sensing and Managing the Environment. 1998 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Symposium Proceedings. (Cat. No.98CH36174), 1998A different approach to the extraction of useful information from SSM/I data, and one which is being adopted increasingly, is that of optimal estimation. In this method, the required physical parameters are estimated simultaneously and are the best set of parameters which explain the observed SSM/I brightness temperatures (top of atmosphere radiances).

IGARSS '96. 1996 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002Novel inversion methods for the retrieval of surface temperature (air temperature at ground level) in forested areas using space-borne multi-channel microwave radiometer data are presented and analyzed. The first technique is an inversion method based on the use of a semi-empirical emission model.
