Brain‐Mimetic Mapless Navigation Framework Integrating Visual Streams and Entorhinal‐Hippocampal‐Prefrontal Circuits

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient autonomous navigation in complex and unstructured environments without pre‐existing maps remains a significant challenge for mobile robotics. Drawing inspiration from rodent neural architectures, this study proposes a brain‐mimetic mapless navigation framework for mobile robots.

No gain from pain: Lack of nociceptor activation suggests no adaptation for defence in the evolution of European viper venoms

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Snake venoms show variability in composition at all taxonomic levels, both within and between species, and the selective pressures underlying this variation have long been debated.

Future climate change favours the increase in abundance of smaller, shorter‐lived fish in the northeastern Mediterranean

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract As species distributions shift due to climate change, functional alterations may also occur within marine communities, potentially leading to ecosystem‐wide transformations.

How much are you willing to pay to avoid lockdowns? Evidence from the real estate market

open access: yesReal Estate Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract In response to the COVID‐19 pandemic, numerous countries implemented lockdowns. Development of latent fingermarks on the surfaces of photo paper

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Photo paper is frequently encountered in forensic investigations; however, latent fingermark development remains challenging because its surface characteristics vary according to the manufacturing process and coating structure. This study investigated suitable methods for developing latent fingermarks on commercially available photo papers ...

Adapting to Urban Heights: Multidimensional Gradients Drive Nest‐Selection Plasticity and Trade‐Offs in a Human‐Commensal Sparrow

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Urban Eurasian tree sparrows exhibit pronounced nest‐site plasticity, exploiting vertical building space while preferring lower nest heights when sites are abundant. Nest decisions are driven by altitude and building height rather than other factors, indicating a shift toward anthropogenic resources in cities.
