VSC-HVDC Station With SSSC Characteristics

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2004
Commercial installations of voltage-source converter-high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) are now in service as asynchronous link and as underwater/underground DC transmission. The research reported in his paper is directed to providing VSC-HVDC with synchronizing power and damping power so that after a transient the steady-state is reached in ...

Modeling of SSSC with EMTP RV

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2006
This paper presents the model of a Static Synchronous Series Compensator with the simulation package EMTP RV. The model uses a neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source converter (VSC) to generate a high quality waveform. The model operation is verified with two types of controllers: Direct and Indirect to validate their mode of operation.

Modeling of SSSC in harmonic domain

2007 42nd International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2007
In this paper a linear model for SSSC1 in harmonic domain is presented. In this model the harmonic voltages that SSSC injects in to the power system can be calculated. It is assumed that SSSC uses a 6-pulse PWM converter. The third harmonic is assumed to be eliminated by conducting angels of the switching functions equal to 120 degrees.

A voltage measurement based control of a SSSC

2010 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2010
Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) offer the possibility of controlling line transmission parameters in order to optimize and enhance the system characteristics. Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) is a FACTS that can be used to modify the power flow through a transmission line.

Optimal power oscillation damping with SSSC

TENCON 2008 - 2008 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2008
This paper presents an approach for optimal power oscillation damping with SSSC. A two area power network has been modeled with SSSC in the linearized framework. An attempt has been made to design optimal power oscillation damping (OPOD) controller utilizing the model with eigen value assignment technique with a level of relative stability.

Unbalanced SSSC modelling in the harmonic domain

2005 International Power Engineering Conference, 2005
This paper presents a non-linear harmonic domain model for the static synchronous series compensator (SSSC). The model incorporates a fundamental frequency three-phase power-flow and a harmonic converter representation. This combination accounts for system imbalance and the resultant non-characteristic harmonic generation. The proposed unified solution

Guaranteed Convergence Embedded System for SSSC and IPFC

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2021
This letter presents a holomorphic embedded system for two series FACTS devices, namely SSSC and IPFC, to evade the numerical issues faced by traditional iterative methods. The developed embedded systems and white germ solutions are investigated along-with their recursive relationships.

Impact of SSSC on the digital distance relaying

2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009
This paper presences analytical and simulation results of the application of distance relays for the protection of transmission employing Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC). Firstly a detailed model of the SSSC and its control is proposed and then the situation is studied analytically, where the errors introduced in the impedance measurement ...

Impacts of the SSSC on damping power system oscillations

2017 14th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI-CON), 2017
The planning and operation condition of electrical power systems are changing due to a variety of causes. FACTS controller helps in raising dynamic stability limit and provide better power flow control. Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is one of the important members of series FACTS controller.

Control algorithm for a SSSC with a predictive synchronization algorithm

2009 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2009
The power grid in most of the countries is aging and under increasing stress. The modern industrial infrastructure demands increasing amounts of affordable and reliable electricity. Solutions based on Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) can be used to control power flow on the grid.
