Stabbing Pairwise Intersecting Disks by Four Points [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In their seminal work, Danzer (1956, 1986) and Stach\'{o} (1981) established that every set of pairwise intersecting disks in the plane can be stabbed by four points. However, both these proofs are non-constructive, at least in the sense that they do not seem to imply an efficient algorithm for finding the stabbing points, given such a set of disks $D$.

Multi‐Scaled Cellulosic Nanonetworks from Tunicates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microbial and plant nanonetworks of cellulose have enabled a wide range of high‐performance yet sustainable materials. Herein, a third class of cellulosic nanonetworks is showcased by exploiting the only animal tissue‐producing cellulose nanofibers, i.e., ascidians. An ultrastructure including spherical cells and a microvasculature with diameters of 50–

Traumatic Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery-Right Ventricle Fistula: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Tehran University Heart Center, 2011
Traumatic coronary artery-cameral fistulas (TCAF) are rare and may present secondary to penetrating injuries (80%) or iatrogenic traumas. Early operative intervention remains the recommended treatment modality for accidental traumatic coronary artery ...

Biofilm Control by Active Topography with Mucin Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a new antifouling strategy based on a bioinspired design. Mucin coating enhances biofilm control by active topography with beating micron‐sized pillars. Besides the mechanical force of beating pillars, the antibiofilm activities also involve biological factors since mucin coating inhibits swarming motility and c‐di‐GMP synthesis in ...

Investigation of impact performance of 3-dimensional interlock polymer fabrics in double and multi-angle pass stabbing

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
This paper presents the influence of fabric structures and stab angles on single-pass stab impact and the repeated and multi-angle stabbings of 3-dimensional (3D) warp interlock structural fabrics based on the high-molecular-weight polyethylene (HMWPE ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Counterexample for the 2-approximation of finding partitions of rectilinear polygons with minimum stabbing number [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
This paper presents a counterexample for the approximation algorithm proposed by Durocher and Mehrabi [1] for the general problem of finding a rectangular partition of a rectilinear polygon with minimum stabbing number.

Temperature‐Enhanced Supramolecular Polymer Adhesion Provided by Concurrent Utilization of Calix[4]Pyrrole and Crown Ether Molecular Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Simultaneous utilization of calix[4]pyrrole‐ and crown ether‐based molecular recognition allows the construction of a high molecular weight alternating supramolecular polymer. This heat processible polymer can be used as a durable and reusable adhesive on glass and steel with temperature‐enhanced adhesion strength without the need for a solvent ...
