INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF FREQUENCY ON SHEAR STRENGTH AND DAMPING OF PURE SAND AND SAND STABILISED WITH RICE HUSK ASH USING CYCLIC TRIAXIAL TESTS

open access: yesAdvances in Civil and Architectural Engineering, 2023
Rice husk ash (RHA), owing to its pozzolanic properties and wide abundance, is an additive that can be used as an alternative to cement to improve a variety of soils.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Cyclodextrin stabilised emulsions and cyclodextrinosomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report the preparation of o/w emulsions stabilised by microcrystals of cyclodextrin-oil inclusion complexes. The inclusion complexes are formed by threading cyclodextrins from the aqueous phase on n-tetradecane or silicone oil molecules from the ...

Successful Treatment of Retinal Angiomatous Proliferation with Intravitreal Triamcinolone and Ranibizumab Injections in a 67-Year-Old Male

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2014
A 67-year-old male who presented to the eye casualty department with deterioration in his vision was diagnosed with retinal angiomatous proliferation. After initial deterioration with ranibizumab intravitreal injections, we have demonstrated successful ...

Development of molecular clamp stabilized hemagglutinin vaccines for Influenza A viruses

open access: yesnpj Vaccines, 2021
Influenza viruses cause a significant number of infections and deaths annually. In addition to seasonal infections, the risk of an influenza virus pandemic emerging is extremely high owing to the large reservoir of diverse influenza viruses found in ...

Emulsions stabilised by casein and hyaluronic acid: Effects of high intensity ultrasound on the stability and vitamin E digestive characteristics

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2023
This study aimed to prepare an emulsion stabilised by an ultrasound-treated casein (CAS)-hyaluronic acid (HA) complex and to protect vitamin E during in vitro digestion.

TAUTOLOGICAL RINGS AND STABILISATION [PDF]

open access: yesGlasgow Mathematical Journal, 2021
AbstractWe construct a ring homomorphism comparing the tautological ring, fixing a point, of a closed smooth manifold with that of its stabilisation by S2a×S2b.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
