VISCOSITY STABILIZED SOLAR PONDS
1978A solar pond for collecting solar energy preferably filled with a shallow layer of water over a blackened sunlight-absorbing surface which is in turn in contact with a heat-storage or heat exchanging medium. Convection in the solar pond is inhibited by raising the viscosity of the pond by adding gelling agents, for example, a polyethyleneoxide adduct ...

Mechanistic model for facultative stabilization ponds
Water Environment Research, 1993ABSTRACT: In this work a 12‐parameter mechanistic model representing the biochemical interactions in facultative stabilization ponds is proposed (as an extension of the Fritz et al. [ 1979] model). An acceptable degree of fitness between the model predictions and the experimental data from the real plant was obtained.

Hydraulic Modeling for Waste Stabilization Ponds
Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division, 1981Treatment performance of waste stabilization ponds is a function of both the hydraulic transport and the biological and chemical transformation processes within the pond. Both the efficient hydraulic design of these ponds and the appropriate mathematical models for describing the hydraulic transport process are identified.

Phosphorous Models for Waste Stabilization Ponds
Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1984A laboratory investigation was conducted to evaluate the utilization and recycle of phosphorous in waste stabilization ponds (WSP). Two pond systems were operated under three different loading conditions during a period of 22 months. System I consisted of three series‐connected ponds: an anaerobic WSP followed by an intermediate facultative WSP and a ...

Light penetration in waste stabilization ponds
Water Research, 1994Abstract The penetration of light into waste stabilization ponds was studied because of its importance in pathogen removal and algal productivity. The attenuation of light in ponds was dominated by light absorption by gilvin (also called dissolved yellow matter or humic substances) and algae, light scattering processes (turbidity) being of no ...

Elimination of Salmonella in stabilization ponds
Water Research, 1973Abstract While the reduction of putrescible organic matter is important in sewage treatment, the microbiological quality of the effluents is of great public health significance, since these are usually discharged into streams or onto land. The performance of two types of stabilization ponds located at Nagpur, India, was studied with respect to the ...

Design Principles of Waste Stabilization Ponds
Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division, 1969Waste stabilization ponds will be more effectively employed as pollution control systems if suitable design formula and corresponding design parameters are made available to design engineers. To accomplish this objective, an analogy has been drawn between a first-order chemical reactor and a waste stabilization pond.

Sulfide Production in Waste Stabilization Ponds
Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division, 1969This investigation deals with the production and release of hydrogen sulfide from waste stabilization ponds, and required design modifications, resulting from increased sulfate or hydrogen sulfide content. A 6-ft deep facultative pond was operated under seven different operating conditions.

Temporal stability of pond zooplankton assemblages
Freshwater Biology, 2004Summary1. A large body of recent theory has recently developed focused on the relationship between the species diversity of competitor assemblages and the temporal stability of total competitor biomass. Many of these models predict that stability can increase with increasing diversity.2.
