Secondary threshold amplitudes for sinuous streak breakdown [PDF]
The nonlinear stability of laminar sinuously bent streaks is studied for the plane Couette flow at Re=500 in a nearly minimal box and for the Blasius boundary layer at Re_d*= 700.

The role of numerical boundary procedures in the stability of perfectly matched layers [PDF]
In this paper we address the temporal energy growth associated with numerical approximations of the perfectly matched layer (PML) for Maxwell's equations in first order form.

Pulsating flow and boundary layers in viscous electronic hydrodynamics [PDF]
Motivated by experiments on a hydrodynamic regime in electron transport, we study the effect of an oscillating electric field in such a setting. We consider a long two-dimensional channel of width $L$, whose geometrical simplicity allows an analytical ...

Modelling of the Evolving Stable Boundary Layer [PDF]
A single-column model of the evolving stable boundary layer (SBL) is tested for self-similar properties of the flow and effects of ambient forcing. The turbulence closure of the model is diagnostic, based on the K-theory approach, with a semi-empirical form of the mixing length, and empirical stability functions of the Richardson number.

Rayleigh-B\'enard convection with a melting boundary [PDF]
We study the evolution of a melting front between the solid and liquid phases of a pure incompressible material where fluid motions are driven by unstable temperature gradients.

Intercomparison of single-column models for GABLS3: preliminary results [PDF]
The GEWEX Atmospheric Boundary-Layer Study (GABLS) focus on the representation of stable boundary layers in atmospheric models (Holtslag, 2006). One of the main goals of GABLS is to provide a mondial platform for the atmospheric boundary layer research ...

Earth's Inner Core dynamics induced by the Lorentz force [PDF]
Seismic studies indicate that the Earth's inner core has a complex structure and exhibits a strong elastic anisotropy with a cylindrical symmetry. Among the various models which have been proposed to explain this anisotropy, one class of models considers

Nocturnal temperature is crucial in stability determination, as well as parameterization in numerical models. In the present research, data from four tall towers are used to investigate the temperature oscillations observed in the stable boundary layer ...

Lidar Estimates of the Anisotropy of Wind Turbulence in a Stable Atmospheric Boundary Layer
In this paper, a method is proposed to estimate wind turbulence parameters using measurements recorded by a conically scanning coherent Doppler lidar with two different elevation angles.
