Weighing risks against GHG reduction benefits in emerging green technologies

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Green technologies represent promising strategies for mitigating carbon emissions and combating global warming. However, their implementation in civil and industrial applications is not without risks, as intrinsic uncertainties and latent safety concerns can threaten their effective deployment.

An electrocyte‐inspired moisture‐driven electricity generator for self‐sustained water electrolysis

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
Inspired by the electric eel's electrocytes, a Janus hygroscopic film mediated by a pioneer continuous interphase is designed to significantly alleviates the ion migration resistance, achieving an ultrahigh current of 150 µA and maintaining a voltage of 0.8 V for over 1000 h.

Strain‐based modeling and analysis for rock blasting and geomechanics applications

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a novel strain‐based modeling approach for blasting and geomechanical applications, using measurable variables like particle velocity, strain, and displacement. By bypassing complex constitutive relations, strain‐based models capture critical blasting trends and full‐blast design parameters with minimal calibration.

Optimization of cut‐hole layout under high in situ stress based on numerical simulation and field tests

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the blast‐induced rock damage patterns under different cut‐hole layouts and ground stress conditions through numerical simulations and field tests. The findings in this study provide valuable insights for similar underground engineering applications.
