Olfactory Structures in Staged Human Embryos

Cells Tissues Organs, 2004
The olfactory region was investigated in 303 serially sectioned human embryos, 23 of which were controlled by precise graphic reconstructions. The following findings in the embryonic period are new for the human. (1) The nasal plates arise at the neurosomatic junction, as do also the otic placodes. (2) Crest comes from the nasal plates later (stage 13)

Structure of stage-1 and stage-2 MC12 GICs

Synthetic Metals, 1989
Abstract The crystal structure and defect structure of several metal-dichloride GICs are investigated using single crystal x-ray precession, four-circle diffractometry, and transmission electron microscopy. The intercalate layers are found to be translationally incommensurate with the carbon layers.

Age or Stage Structure?

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2012
Discrete stage-structured density-dependent and discrete age-structured density-dependent population models are considered. Regarding the former, we prove that the model at hand is permanent (i.e., that the population will neither go extinct nor exhibit explosive oscillations) and given density dependent fecundity terms we also show that species with ...

Resource Competition in Stage-structured Populations

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2000
Two models are made to account for the dynamics of a consumer-resource system in which the consumers are divided into juveniles and adults. The resource grows logistically and a type II functional response is assumed for consumers. Resource levels determine fecundity and maturation rates in one model, and mortality rates in the other.

Stage Structure and Stage Salience for Event Semantics

2005
It is generally considered at least since Moens and Steedman (1988) that eventualities should be decomposed into sub-eventualities or ‘stages’ (cf. also Parsons, 1990; Smith, 1991; Kamp & Reyle, 1993). Formal models of situation structure seldom pay attention to the ontological status of stages.
