Extended Evolutionary Algorithms with Stagnation-Based Extinction Protocol

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Extinction has been frequently studied by evolutionary biologists and is shown to play a significant role in evolution. The genetic algorithm (GA), one of popular evolutionary algorithms, has been based on key concepts in natural evolution such as ...

The Reasons for Stagnation of Calf Breeding Cooperatives in Kermanshah City (A Case Study of Cooperative No. 348) [PDF]

open access: yesتعاون و کشاورزی, 2011
The purpose of this qualitative research was to determine the reasons of stagnation in calf breeding farm cooperatives in Kermanshah City in 2010 by utilizing Grounded Theory. To this end, the stagnated calf breeding cooperative no.

Response of air stagnation frequency to anthropogenically enhanced radiative forcing

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2012
Stagnant atmospheric conditions can lead to hazardous air quality by allowing ozone and particulate matter to accumulate and persist in the near-surface environment.

Richardson's pair diffusion and the stagnation point structure of turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
DNS and laboratory experiments show that the spatial distribution of straining stagnation points in homogeneous isotropic 3D turbulence has a fractal structure with dimension D_s = 2.

e-Government Lessons from South Africa 2001-2011: Institutions, State of Progress and Measurement

open access: yesThe African Journal of Information and Communication, 2012
Electronic governance is the future of public governance globally. Governments that do not make the transition from paper-based systems of public administration to electronic platforms of public governance may swiftly undermine their chances of ...

Experimental characterization of the stagnation layer between two obliquely merging supersonic plasma jets

open access: yes, 2013
We present spatially resolved measurements characterizing the stagnation layer between two obliquely merging supersonic plasma jets. Intra-jet collisionality is very high ($\lambda_{ii} \ll 1$mm), but the inter-jet ion-ion mean free paths are on the same

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Vortex shedding in a two-dimensional diffuser: theory and simulation of separation control by periodic mass injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a reduced-order model for large-scale unsteadiness (vortex shedding) in a two-dimensional diffuser and use the model to show how periodic mass injection near the separation point reduces stagnation pressure loss.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Computational Fluid Dynamics of Blood Flow in an Extracorporeal Blood Circuit for the Analysis of Thrombogenic Hemodynamic Factors

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2011
Blood flow in a filter for an extracorporeal blood circuit was analyzed numerically to assess fluid mechanical quantities related to thrombogenesis. Results showed stagnant flow regions, in particular at the downstream side of the ceiling of a filter.
