Unsteady stagnation point flow

Applied Scientific Research, 1972
In this paper we consider the changes in the two-dimensional stagnation point flow against a plane wall when the wall is impulsively set in motion in its own plane. In particular a solution which describes the final approach to the ultimate steady state is determined.

Stagnation‐point Flow in Magnetohydrodynamics

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1967
AbstractThe inviscid three‐dimensional stagnation‐point in magnetohydrodynamics is investigated in full generality. The analytic character of the flow depends on just two parameters, one of which characterizes the streamline pattern on the body and the other the effective interaction of the electromagnetic field. The pattern, according to linear terms,

Oscillating stagnation point flow

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1982
A solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is given for an incompressible stagnation point flow whose magnitude oscillates in time about a constant, non-zero, value (an unsteady Hiemenz flow). Analytic approximations to the solution in the low and high frequency limits are given and compared with the results of numerical integrations. The application of

Unsteady axisymmetric stagnation point flow

Fluid Dynamics Research, 1992
The unsteady axisymmetric case of a three-dimensional stagnation flow is investigated. The incompressible potential flow far away from the stagnation point oscillates about a constant mean value. Using perturbation methods, an analytical solution of the problem is obtained for the extreme cases of low and high oscillation frequencies.

Three‐dimensional Hiemenz stagnation‐point flows

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2020
AbstractA modification of Hiemenz's two‐dimensional outer potential stagnation‐point flow of strain rate a is obtained by adding periodic radial and azimuthal velocities of the form and , respectively, where b is a shear rate. This leads to the discovery of a new family of three‐dimensional viscous stagnation‐point flows depending on the shear‐to ...

AN UNSTEADY STAGNATION-POINT FLOW

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1989
We consider the oscillatory flow at a two-dimensional stagnation point. We show, following the initiation of the motion, that the solution always develops a singularity at a finite time, and we discuss the implications of this for the flow over a cylinder which performs transverse harmonic ...

Stagnation Points in Flows about Solid Bodies

Journal of Engineering Mathematics, 1999
The authors study two- and three-dimensional flows about solid bodies. In the two-dimensional case they consider the flows about a vortex pair and a dipole pair. Then the irrotational motion about two dipoles is considered in the three-dimensional case.
