Material Challenges and Alloy Selection for Particle/s‐CO2 Heat Exchangers in Concentrated Solar Power Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Combining supercritical CO2 (s‐CO2) cycles with particle‐based heat transfer media holds great potential in concentrated solar power plants but poses enormous material challenges. The particle/s‐CO2 heat exchanger must withstand extreme conditions, including high temperatures, pressures, CO2 corrosion, and erosion.

Plasma-Assisted Control of Supersonic Flow over a Compression Ramp

open access: yesAerospace, 2019
This study considers the effect of an electric discharge on the flow structure near a 19.4° compression ramp in Mach-2 supersonic flow. The experiments were conducted in the supersonic wind tunnel SBR-50 at the University of Notre Dame.

The pressure in a deep-water Stokes wave of greatest height [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper we investigate the qualitative behaviour of the pressure function beneath an extreme Stokes wave over infinite depth. The presence of a stagnation point at the wave-crest of an extreme Stokes wave introduces a number of mathematical difficulties resulting in the irregularity of the free surface profile. It will be proven that the pressure

Multidirectionally Patterned Interdigital Transducers for Enhancing Acoustofluidic Streaming with Flexible Printed Circuit Board

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable and multidirectional interdigital transducer (M‐IDT) on a flexible printed circuit board provides a practical platform for acoustofluidic research. It simplifies and accelerates prototyping, enabling cost‐effective exploration of wave modes and fluid dynamics.

A remote hypertension management program clinical algorithm

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1147-1162, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Introduction Hypertension is the leading risk factor for death, affecting over one billion people worldwide, yet control rates are poor and stagnant. We developed a remote hypertension management program that leverages digitally transmitted home blood pressure (BP) measurements, algorithmic care pathways, and patient–navigator communications ...

Numerical Study on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Heavy-Duty Vehicles Platooning for Energy Savings and CO2 Reduction

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
This study aims to analyze the aerodynamic interaction between moving vehicles platooning with the change in the platooning conditions on a freeway. The effect of the vortex generated by the forward vehicle reduces the value of the stagnation pressure ...

Electricity Generation From Ambient Water Evaporation in the Absence of Sunlight via PVA‐Based Porous Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, a water‐evaporation driven energy harvester is devised that works even in the absence of sunlight. This is achieved by combining PVA hydrogel with thermoelectrics (TEG) to directly capture energy from water evaporation. Under mild conditions (RH 40%, T of 26 °C, and 2.8 m s−1 wind), 1.71 mW (1.02 W m−2) power can be generated, >3 fold ...

Comment on “Jet propulsion by microwave air plasma in the atmosphere” [AIP Adv. 10, 055002 (2020)]

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
In this Comment, we analyze the performance of a microwave plasma device presented by Ye et al. [AIP Adv. 10, 055002 (2020)]. The efficiency analysis, using conservation of energy, shows that the methods used by the original authors predict up to 8000 ...

Ultra-relativistic, neutrino driven flows in GRBs: A double transonic flow solution in Schwarzschild spacetime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The structure of a hydrodynamic, double transonic flow driven by neutrino annihilation in the polar region of a Schwarzschild black hole is computed for different energy deposition profiles. The requirement that both, the inflow into the black hole and the outflow to infinity pass smoothly through their sonic points fixes the stagnation radius and ...

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous
