Numerical and Experimental Study on Deicing of Wind Turbine Blades by Electric Heating Under Complex Flow Field

open access: yesMachines
Wind turbine blades are prone to icing in cold environments, which leads to decreased aerodynamic performance, increased power loss, and even endangers the safe and stable operation of wind turbines.

Two-phase choked flow of subcooled nitrogen through a slit [PDF]

open access: yes
Two-phase choked flow rate and pressure distribution data are reported for subcooled nitrogen flowing through a slit. The slip was a narrow rectangular passage of equal length and width. The inlet stagnation pressure ranged from slightly above saturation

Investigation of hypersonic rarefied flow on a spherical nose of the AOTV [PDF]

open access: yes
The Navier-Stokes (NS) equations were integrated numerically for investigating the flow characteristics on the forepart of the spherical nose of a space vehicle such as the AOTV or AFE by a modified Accelerated Successive Replacement (ASR) scheme under ...

Modelling of continuous low‐temperature emulsion co‐polymerization in 3D‐printed reactor

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
A kinetic model for the emulsion copolymerization of butyl acrylate/styrene at low temperatures is proposed and validated against experiments with a redox initiator system. The model was successfully transferred to a 3D‐printed tubular reactor and conversions of more than 80% and small particles sizes below 40 nm were observed.

Correlations of velocity and temperature fluctuations in the stagnation-point flow of circular cylinder in turbulent flow [PDF]

open access: yes
Boundary layer flow and turbulence transport analyses to study the influence of the free-stream turbulence on the surface heat transfer rate and the skin friction around the stagnation point of a circular cylinder in a turbulent flow are presented.

In‐situ asphaltene capture with iron oxide nanoparticles in steam‐assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for improved recovery and partial upgrading of bitumen

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Key improvements obtained by incorporating nanoparticles into a lab‐scale SAGD process configuration. The bar plots show enhanced oil recovery, reduced viscosity, and increased asphaltene adsorption in nanoparticle‐assisted scenarios compared with conventional SAGD.
