Effect of Angle of Cut on Corn Stalks Mechanical Cutting Strength and Energy

2010 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 20 - June 23, 2010, 2010
Orientation of fibers or direction of grains in the biomass stalks with respect to the direction of cutting element will influence the force and energy requirement of size reduction. An optimal orientation will lead to useful energy saving. This paper deals with the determination of the effect of angle of cuts with respect to cutting element, utilizing

Comparison of Methods for Evaluating Stalk Strength of Sorghum1

Crop Science, 1978
Stalk breakage prior to harvest is a cause of grain loss in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] and is deterrent to the use of taller, higher yielding hybrids. Laboratory methods of evaluating stalk strength in sorghum were assessed by comparing them with field stalk breakage for the purpose of developing a procedure useful in breeding programs.

New Strength Agent: Corn Stalk Pulp Applied on Package Board

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
The feasibility of making new strength agent by cooking corn stalk rich in hemicellulose was studied. Corn stalk was cooked by normal ethanol pulping with best process parameters obtained by early discovery. The effect of corn stalk agent on physical strength of package board (made by 20% mineral fibre and 80% recycled fibre) was discussed as well ...

Stalk Strength and Sugar Content of Different Dual-Purpose Sorghum Lines

2013 Kansas City, Missouri, July 21 - July 24, 2013, 2013
Abstract. Dual-purpose bioenergy crops, in which reduced carbon is harvested from multiple sources, are efficient feedstocks because carbon accumulation in any one organ is usually sink-limited. In other words, carbon yield from the vegetative stalk can usually be increased without sacrificing starch yield from the grain. In December 2012, sorghum was
