Mechanism of Strong Effects of Stall Suppression by an Air Separator Investigated by Internal Flow Measurements in an Axial Flow Fan

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
Radial-vaned air separators produce strong stall improvement effect in axial flow fans. Changes in the fan internal flow patterns achieved by the device are confirmed by Pitot traverse measurements. For the air separator condition, with a decrease in the

Investigating the CREDIT History of Supernova Remnants as Cosmic-Ray Sources

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Supernova remnants (SNRs) have long been suspected to be the primary sources of Galactic cosmic rays. Over the past decades, great strides have been made in the modeling of particle acceleration, magnetic field amplification, and escape from SNRs.

Wells turbine for wave energy conversion - improvement of stall characteristics by the use of 3-dimensional blades -

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2014
The effect of 3-dimensional blade on the turbine characteristics has been investigated experimentally by model testing under steady flow conditions and simulated numerically by quasi-steady analysis under sinusoidal flow conditions, in order to improve ...

Computational research on the formation mechanism of double humps in pump–turbines

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2021
The hump formation mechanism has not been fully understood so far, mainly because of two difficulties in analysis. The first one is how to find the most important external characteristic factor inducing humps, and the other is how to avoid too many ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

CFD-Based In-Depth Investigation of the Effects of the Shape and Layout of a Vortex Generator on the Aerodynamic Performance of a Multi-MW Wind Turbine

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Thick airfoils are conventionally adopted in the blade root region of a wind turbine to ensure structural safety under extreme conditions, despite the resulting power loss.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Identification and Modeling Method of Longitudinal Stall Aerodynamic Parameters of Civil Aircraft Based on Improved Kirchhoff Stall Aerodynamic Model

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
The stall aerodynamic model based on Kirchhoff’s theory of flow separation is widely used in the identification and modeling of stall aerodynamic parameters. However, it has two defects.
