Rotating stall inception in axial compressors under periodic perturbations

2013 25th Chinese Control and Decision Conference (CCDC), 2013
The inception to rotating stall in axial compressors with inlet distortions is theoretically investigated by studying the three state Moore-Greitzer model with periodic perturbations. The model is transformed into a normal form by using the center manifold theory. Based on the normal form, we derived analytically the periodic solutions as well as their

Modelling dynamic stall vortex inception at low Mach numbers

The Aeronautical Journal, 1997
Results of a comparison of dynamic stall onset are presented, as assessed from low Mach number windtunnel data contained in the University of Glasgow's database and that from the well established Beddoes’ model. The model, which was originally developed to reconstruct higher Mach number dynamic stall characteristics, exhibited a lower stall onset ...

Stall Inception in a High Speed Centrifugal Compressor During Speed Transients

Volume 2C: Turbomachinery, 2017
The inception and evolution of rotating stall in a high-speed centrifugal compressor are characterized during speed transients. Experiments were performed in the Single Stage Centrifugal Compressor (SSCC) facility at Purdue University and include speed transients from sub-idle to full speed at different throttle settings while collecting transient ...

Stall Inception Characteristics of Axial Compressor Varying IGV Stagger

Journal of Fluid Machinery, 2012
Stall inception characteristics are researched to understand stall well. To realize different stall inception patterns, IGV stagger angle was changed. At design IGV stagger angle, spike, which is short length scale, is observed. Decreasing IGV stagger angle, spike changes to mode, which is long length scale, and further decreasing get multi cell ...

Stall Inception in a Vaneless Diffuser of a Centrifugal Compressor

Volume 6: Turbo Expo 2003, Parts A and B, 2003
This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of a rotating stall inception in a vaneless diffuser of a centrifugal compressor. Eight fast-response pressure transducers are equally spaced around the circumference at the inlet and exit of a parallel vaneless diffuser.

Effects of Fan Speed on Rotating Stall Inception and Recovery

Volume 7: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2010
An implicit, time-accurate 3D compressible RANS solver is used to simulate rotating stall inception and recovery, the so-called rotating stall hysteresis, in a modern fan geometry. In the first instance, rotating stall was simulated for 70%, 80% and 90% fan speeds using a whole-annulus fan model with a variable-area nozzle downstream.

Evolution of unsteady flow near rotor tip during stall inception

Journal of Thermal Science, 2011
Previously the features of circumferential propagation of self-induced tip leakage flow unsteadiness for a low speed isolated axial compressor rotor in the authors’ laboratory were discovered and investigated via numerical simulation, which only occurs below a critical stable flow point that is close to but not yet at the stall limit.

Computational Study of Rotating-Stall Inception in Axial Compressors

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1997
Rotating-stall inception in axial-e ow compressors has been studied computationally using a quasi-threedimensional time-marching Navier ‐ Stokes method with a mixing-length turbulence model. Of particular interest was the effect of external circumferential disturbances corresponding to inlet stagnation pressure distortions and rotor/stator blade ...

Using wavelets to study spike-type compressor rotating stall inception

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2016
Abstract This paper demonstrates that the derivative of Gaussian wavelet with one vanishing moment can detect the final stable stall cell of the spike-type compressor rotating stall inception. The appearance of the final stable stall cell is estimated to lead the Lipschitz regularity of the transient casing wall pressure signal to be around 0.5.

Stall Inception in the Compressor System of a Turbofan Engine

Journal of Turbomachinery, 1998
Compressor flow instabilities have been the subject of a great number of investigations during the past decade. While most of this research work was done on isolated test-rig compressors, this paper presents stall inception measurements in the compressor system of a two-spool turbofan engine at various power settings.
