Ageing with long-standing hearing impairment and deafness

International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, 2000
Until recently, ageing with a long-standing disability had not been a major consideration for governments around the world. Policy and planning for this substantial subgroup had not kept abreast with developments in regard to the growing numbers of older people in general. Consultations held in Australia provided information and recommendations for use

Strategy to convert an even-aged stratified stand to an uneven-aged mixed species stand

2009
This thesis is the initial step of a long term study to evaluate and monitor a selection silviculture system applied to a 38.9 hectares private woodlot in the Golden moist-warm variant, of the Interior Cedar Hemlock (ICHmw1) zone. It establishes the selection silviculture parameters designed to convert an even-aged stratified mixed species stand ...

The age hypothesis does not stand up to scrutiny

BMJ, 2012
Schierbeck and colleagues suggested that “initiation of hormone replacement therapy in women early after menopause significantly reduces the risk of the combined endpoint of mortality, myocardial infarction, or heart failure.”1 They invoke …

Frost Seeding into Aging Alfalfa Stands

Agronomy Journal, 2001
Little is known about the potential to frost‐seed cool‐season pasture species into mature alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Experiments were conducted in 1995 and 1996 near Arlington, WI (four sites), and Lancaster, WI (three sites), to evaluate the establishment and response to seeding rates of five cool‐season grasses and red clover (Trifolium pratense L.

Estimating Tree Ages in Uneven-Aged Hardwood Stands

Southern Journal of Applied Forestry, 1989
Abstract Two groups of upland hard-wood trees from the same general area were studied by 44 volunteer observers to determine the ability of the observers to visually estimate tree ages. The error of estimate for tree ages varied by the professional category of the observer, and all categoriesof observer improved with training.

Financial Maturity for Even-Aged and All-Aged Stands

Forest Science, 1983
Abstract The Bentley and Teeguarden even-aged general present net worth model is further generalized to accommodate all-aged stands. The relationship to Chang's forest value, for all-aged stands, is described. Forest Sci. 29:833-836.

Dynamics of an Uneven-Aged Forest Stand

Forest Science, 1972
Abstract The components of net growth for number of trees and basal area are described as a system of first-order, ordinary differential equations for an uneven-aged forest stand. Data from a 6-year period are utilized to estimate coefficients for the governing equations.

Standing on Holy Ground in the Middle Ages

2022
This book illuminates how the floor surface shaped the ways in which people in medieval western Europe and beyond experienced sacred spaces. The ground beneath our feet plays a crucial, yet often overlooked, role in our relationship with the environments we inhabit and the spaces with which we interact.

Density and the Growth of Even-Aged Stands

Forest Science, 2002
Abstract This study develops a density-driven module and combines it with conventional growth equations, making the resulting model applicable to managed stands. The relationship between the diameter increment of an average tree and density evolves from the analysis of amount of light coming to the unshaded (upper) part of the crown ...

STAND: A Decision Support System for the Management of Even-Aged Stands in Finland

2006
A stand-level decision support system STAND can be used to study how forest management should change alongside changing goals. Such guidelines are laid down by a combined use of a simulation model and numerical optimization. The tree-level simulation model accommodates the relationships between management actions and outputs that the forest produces ...
