Estimation of heterosis in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.)] for yield and quality traits

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2016
Five CMS lines were crossed with nine testers in a line x tester design to study the extent of heterosis in pearl millet for yield and quality traits. Heterosis was observed in both directions for most of the characters.

Analysis of reproductive performances during the formation of a synthetic rabbit strain

open access: yes, 2005
[EN] In 1995, a synthetic rabbit strain ('2666') was formed at INRA for commercial meat purposesby crossing the INRA '2066' strain and the 'V' strain from the Polytechnical University of Valencia (Spain). The development of some reproductive traits and ...

Heterosis for seed yield and its components in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2013
A study was conducted in sesame to assess the extent of heterosis for fifteen quantitative traits including seed yield per plant. Twelve lines and three testers were crossed in a line x tester fashion to develop 48 F1 hybrids.

Heterosis Studies in GMS Based Diploid Cotton [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2010
A study of heterosis over better parent and checks was carried out during 2005-06. GMS based hybrids were generated byutilizing 18 genetic male sterile lines of G. arboreum and 3 testers of G. herbaceum.

Analysis of heterotic potential for yield and its attributing traits in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench)

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2023
The present investigation was conducted on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) to determine the extent of heterosis for 12 traits, including fruit yield and its attributing traits. A total of 28 F1s produced by crossing seven lines with four testers of okra in

Seeds of change: The impact of Ethiopia's direct seed marketing approach on smallholders' seed purchases and productivity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract While multiple factors explain low adoption rates of improved varieties by small‐scale farmers in sub‐Saharan Africa, a key supply‐side constraint is the limited availability of seed embodying new traits in the volume, quality, price, and timeliness required by farmers. This constraint is partly attributable to classical failures in the market
