X‐Ray Tomography Analysis of Damage Mechanisms in Metal Matrix Syntactic Foams During Compression

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In situ synchrotron X‐ray tomography is used to investigate the internal damage mechanisms of AlSi12 metal matrix syntactic foam with ceramic hollow spheres during compressive loading. It is concluded that a homogeneous distribution of the second‐phase filler material results in a sequential collapse in a localized region; this leads to controlled and ...

Mathematical Foundations for the Boundary-Field Equation Methods in Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering

open access: yesAnalytical and computational methods in scattering and applied mathematics, 2019
The essence of the boundary-field equation method is the reduction of the boundary value problem under consideration to an equivalent nonlocal boundary value problem in a bounded domain by using boundary integral equations. The latter can then be treated

Towards a common thread in Complexity: an accuracy-based approach

open access: yes, 2008
The complexity of a system, in general, makes it difficult to determine some or almost all matrix elements of its operators. The lack of accuracy acts as a source of randomness for the matrix elements which are also subjected to an external potential due

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,

Field parametric geostatistics - An alternative to tackle gold grade estimations

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal
High anomalous grades are very common in gold deposits, whose presence requires careful treatment to prevent overestimation of metal content. Mineral resource analysts have worked on the estimation of several gold deposits, and none of the classical ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Determining the First Probability Density Function of Linear Random Initial Value Problems by the Random Variable Transformation (RVT) Technique: A Comprehensive Study

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
Deterministic differential equations are useful tools for mathematical modelling. The consideration of uncertainty into their formulation leads to random differential equations. Solving a random differential equation means computing not only its solution
