Redundancy and Reliability [PDF]

open access: yes
Redundancy is a commonly employed strategy to enhance the reliability of systems involving human factors. However, this paper shows that a system with higher level of redundancy can be less reliable due to free-rider effects.

ANALIZING PROTOCOLS FOR LAYER THREE NETWORK REDUNDANCY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis will analyze FHRP (First Hop Redundancy Protocols) which are three redundancy protocols of the IP Layer (layer 3). Protocols of the default gateway redundancy or FHRP are HSRP (Hot Standby Router Protocol) which is a Cisco proprietary and is ...

Varying hydraulic strategies within leaves, stems and roots of coexisting desert shrubs

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Effective and continuous root‐to‐leaf hydraulic transport is crucial for plant survival and growth during drought. However, the capacity to resist hydraulic dysfunction remains understudied in leaves and roots, especially for desert shrubs.

Functional trait modules link climatic niche geometry to projected range change in global butterflies

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate warming is redistributing insects, but species‐level projections alone rarely show which functional strategies are most exposed or how traits are linked to climatic niche structure.

Reliability and performance evaluation of retrial repairable systems with an unreliable repairer using the GSPN model

open access: yesCroatian Operational Research Review
Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets ($GSPNs$) are widely used in reliability analysis to model and optimize the dependability of complex systems, enabling assessments of availability, failure probabilities, and repair processes through stochastic timing ...

Filtered, yet not homogenised: Urbanisation does not lead to cross‐city convergence in Mexican urban bird communities

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Urbanisation simplifies bird communities, but does not necessarily make urban avifaunas alike. Across three biogeographically distinct Mexican cities, urban bird assemblages remained regionally distinct despite strong local filtering. These results challenge assumptions of urban‐driven homogenisation and emphasise the dominant role of regional species ...

GOVERNING THE CLOUD: Infrastructural Statecraft and the Political Ecology of Digital Expansion in Oregon

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Oregon's wave of data center and semiconductor projects shows how cloud capitalism reorganizes resource systems and territorial governance. Examining Amazon, Google, and Intel, the article traces how fiscal incentives, utility programs, and land‐use instruments are recalibrated to secure hyperscale loads.

Offspring Defensive Investment Covaries With Brood Value in a Female Cobweb Spider

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We performed a thorough field investigation on the web architectures of Campanicola campanulata to research its cobweb architecture variation under the condition of whether it carried egg sacs, in order to test the theory of its brood value. Our results demonstrate that retreat construction in female cobweb spiders is modulated by brood value.
