Stapedectomy Versus Stapedotomy

Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America, 2018
Stapedectomy and stapedotomy represent the state-of-the-art surgical procedures in addressing the conductive hearing loss caused by otosclerosis. Their high rates of success and long-term stability have been demonstrated repeatedly in many studies. In comparing the short- and long-term results of the 2 procedures, it is evident that stapedotomy confers

Diode Laser Stapedotomy vs Conventional Stapedotomy in Otosclerosis

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 2016
ObjectivesTo assess and compare the efficacy of diode laser stapedotomy (DLS) and conventional manual stapedotomy (CMS) in the treatment of otosclerosis.Study DesignRandomized clinical trial.SettingTertiary health center.Subjects and MethodsWe randomly assigned 60 patients with otosclerosis planned for primary stapedotomy to receive either DLS or CMS ...

Laser stapedotomy

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1999
AbstractThirty-four ears with conductive hearing loss due to otosclerosis were operated upon using the laser stapedotomy technique. Audiological results were compared with the results of 316 non-laser stapedotomies. The post-operative air-bone gap, calculated as the difference between the postoperative air and bone conduction levels, was smaller with ...

Infrared laser stapedotomy

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1991
A pulsed holmium: YAG laser (lambda = 1980 nm) was used to perform 0.4 mm stapedotomy fenestrations in human stapes footplates from freshly dissected cadavers under simulated surgical conditions. The energy was coupled into a 400 microns core diameter nylon fiber.

Argon Laser Stapedotomy

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1982
The argon laser has been used clinically to perform stapedotomies in patients with otosclerosis. In order to determine if this device induces histologic changes in the inner ear, stapedotomies were performed in cats. Saccular membrane fistulas, in line with the path of the laser beam, were found in 3 of 8 ears.

CO2 Laser Stapedotomy

The Laryngoscope, 1989
This clinical study was preceded by two laboratory experiments. The first experiment compared temperature changes in the vestibule while vaporizing a 0.6-mm stapedotomy with Argon, KTP-532, and CO2 lasers. Data demonstrated that the CO2 laser possesses superior tissue characteristics for stapedotomy. In the second experiment safe energy parameters were

Argon laser stapedotomy

The Laryngoscope, 1991
Lasers have been used in otology for 10 years. There have been reports of excellent hearing results using laser energy in surgery for otosclerosis. We used the argon laser in 75 consecutive primary stapedotomy procedures. The postoperative air-bone gap was 10 dB or less in 87% of patients and 20 dB or less in 95%.

Reliability of Microdrill Stapedotomy

Otology & Neurotology, 2007
To assess the hearing outcomes and complications of the microdrill and pick stapedotomy techniques. We assessed 123 primary otosclerosis operation in 103 patients who had more than 1 year follow-up (71 microdrill; 52 pick stapedotomies). There were 87 women and 36 men in the study group (mean age, 44 +/- 11.2 years) at surgery.Stapedotomy for ...

Stapedotomy Versus Stapedectomy

Otology & Neurotology, 2009
The postoperative results in 392 otosclerotic ears were analyzed. Stapedotomy with wire Teflon piston does not increase the risk of postoperative fistula formation in comparison to stapedectomy with tissue graft sealing. Stapedotomy with a 0.4 mm wire Teflon piston yields poorer results in the lower frequencies 3 weeks postoperatively but results as ...
