Phylogenetic revision of the New Zealand genus Dasytricheta, with a discussion of its systematic position within the subfamily Aleocharinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2007
The genus Dasytricheta Bernhauer, 1943 is redefined. The genus Pyromecroma Cameron, 1945 is considered a new synonym of Dasytricheta. Eleven valid species are recognised in the genus: Dasytricheta spectabilis Bernhauer, 1943 (the type species of ...

The influence of cutting height on arthropods in farm grassland

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Mowing at a cutting height of 13 cm slightly reduced the immediate negative impact of mowing compared to mowing at a height of 7 cm. Medium‐term effects overrode this benefit: the number of vegetation‐dwelling arthropods remained strongly reduced two and four weeks after mowing, regardless of the cutting height.

Epigeal aphidophagous predators and the role of alfalfa as a reservoir of aphid predators for arable crops

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
The relative occurrence and seasonal abundance of aphidophagous predators (Insecta and Arachnida) were determined in alfalfa fields at two locations in the northeast Iberian Peninsula, using D-Vac and sweep-net sampling techniques.

Beetles (Coleoptera) from the burrows of the great gerbil Rhombomys opimus (Lichtenstein, 1823) (Mammalia: Muridae) in the southern Turkmenistan

open access: yesТрансформация экосистем, 2023
The study is the first attempt to generalize the data on the burrow biocenoses of the great gerbil (Rhombomys opimus (Lichtenstein, 1823)) in the region of persistent plague epizootics in the lowland part of the Karakum Desert (Southern Turkmenistan ...

Taxonomic and methodological biases in saproxylic beetles: Body size, trophic group and detection probability

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Smaller saproxylic beetle species are described later and appear later in georeferenced databases, demonstrating a persistent body‐size bias that contributes to Linnean and Wallacean shortfalls. Trophic group, not body size, is the primary driver of detection probability in standardised flight‐trap surveys, with sapro‐xylophagous species detected most ...

Field Attraction of Natural Enemies to Methyl Salicylate Differs Between Annual and Perennial Cropping Systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Methyl salicylate (MeSA) is an herbivore‐induced plant volatile (HIPV) known to attract natural enemies of herbivores; however, its effectiveness as a semiochemical across diverse cropping systems and broad geographic regions remains unclear. In this 2‐year field study, we sampled natural enemies using MeSA‐baited and unbaited (control) yellow

Feeding of Scydmaenus rufus (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae) on oribatid and uropodine mites: Prey preferences and hunting behaviour

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2015
Prey preferences and feeding-related behaviour of a Central European species of Scydmaeninae, Scydmaenus rufus, were studied under laboratory conditions. Results of prey choice experiments involving 22 identified species of mites belonging to 13 families

Consistent root microbiomes across contrasting habitats in a wild perennial vine

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Communities of bacteria and fungi associated with the roots are similar across diverse habitats in a wild plant. Abstract While we are beginning to understand that the plant microbiome is important for plant health, we still lack information about how plant microbiomes are shaped across environments and how they influence plant performance, in ...

Larval morphology of Scydmaenus tarsatus and S. hellwigii, with notes on feeding behaviour and a review of the bibliography on the preimaginal stages of ant-like stone beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2012
Morphology of mature larvae of two Central European species of Scydmaenus Latreille is described and illustrated: S. (s. str.) tarsatus Müller & Kunze and S. (Cholerus) hellwigii (Herbst). Inaccuracies in previous descriptions of S.

Managing pests by increasing predators through late termination of cover crops

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 9, Page 8477-8487, September 2026.
Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem functioning of agroecosystems. By delaying cover‐crop termination, growers can effectively increase natural enemy populations and reduce the need for chemical controls. Abstract BACKGROUND Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem ...
