Phage typing set for differentiating Staphylococcus epidermidis

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1988
A phage typing set composed of 13 phages is described for characterizing Staphylococcus epidermidis. Isolates (372) from cases of bovine mastitis were used in this study. Of these, 350 or 94% were successfully delineated, and 63 phage types were observed. Twenty two cultures were not typeable.

Characterization of the novel temperate Staphylococcus haemolyticus phage IME1365_01

Archives of Virology, 2023
The presence of a novel functional prophage, IME1365_01, was predicted from bacterial high-throughput sequencing data and then successfully induced from Staphylococcus haemolyticus by mitomycin C treatment. Transmission electron microscopy showed that phage IME1365_01 has an icosahedral head (43 nm in diameter) and a long tail (172 nm long). This phage

Antibiotic Resistance of Staphylococcus aureus Strains—Searching for New Antimicrobial Agents—Review

Pharmaceuticals
Inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotics is responsible for the rapid development of antimicrobial resistance, which is associated with increased patient morbidity and mortality.

STAPHYLOCOCCUS PYOGENES PHAGE TYPE IN EPIDEMICS

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1956
To the Editor: In a recent epidemic of staphylococcal infections in the newborn nurseries at The Ohio State University Hospital, a single strain of Staphylococcus pyogenes, phage type 42B/47C/44A/52, was found to be responsible for all lesions. A report of this epidemic is to be published in Pediatrics (Shaffer, T. E.; Baldwin, J. N.; Rheins, M.

Synonymous codon usage bias in 16 Staphylococcus aureus phages: Implication in phage therapy

Virus Research, 2005
To reveal the factors influencing architecture of protein-coding genes in staphylococcal phages, relative synonymous codon usage variation has been investigated in 920 protein-coding genes of 16 staphylococcal phages. As expected for AT rich genomes, there are predominantly A and T ending codons in all 16 phages.

Artificial Phages with Biocatalytic Spikes for Synergistically Eradicating Antibiotic‐Resistant Biofilms

Advances in Materials
Antibiotic‐resistant pathogens have become a global public health crisis, especially biofilm‐induced refractory infections. Efficient, safe, and biofilm microenvironment (BME)‐adaptive therapeutic strategies are urgently demanded to combat antibiotic ...

New lytic and new temperate Staphylococcus hyicus phages

Virus Genes
A novel lytic phage with a broad host range was isolated from pig faeces and the complete genome was subsequently sequenced. The phage was found to lyse Staphylococcus hyicus, S. pseudintermedius, S. schleiferi and S. warneri, generating approximately 27 PFU per infected S. hyicus cell.

Discovery of Antimicrobial Lysins from the “Dark Matter” of Uncharacterized Phages Using Artificial Intelligence

Advancement of science
The rapid rise of antibiotic resistance and slow discovery of new antibiotics have threatened global health. While novel phage lysins have emerged as potential antibacterial agents, experimental screening methods for novel lysins pose significant ...

The structure of some staphylococcus and pseudomonas phages

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1963
The study of the ultrastructure of phages is of value both in itself and as a taxonomic aid. The groups examined here have received little previous attention, but the phages in them are of particular interest both structurally and taxonomically. The Pseudomonas phages show a great variety of forms, some of which closely resemble two coliphages.
