Balanced Expression of the Diiron Oxygenase BioE Is Essential for Biotin Homeostasis in Elizabethkingia meningoseptica

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BioE is a new diiron oxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of long‐chain acyl groups into pimeloyl thioester, initiating biotin synthesis. The overexpression of EmBioE disrupts lipid metabolic homeostasis, requiring repressor BioL to maintain a balance between long‐chain fatty acids and biotin synthesis.

Staphylococcus spp. in Bloodstream Infections

open access: yes, 2022
Bloodstream infections (BSIs) have gained importance due to the increase in their incidence in recent years. BSIs increase the length of hospital stay, the costs associated and the patients' morbidity and mortality rates. Early diagnosis, in addition to the identification of the microorganism and its sensitivity to antimicrobial agents, has great ...

Synovial Fluid‐derived Micrococcus Luteus G18 Exacerbates Osteoarthritis Progression by Promoting Chondrocyte Degradation via TLR2/JNK/AP‐1 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Traditionally considered sterile, the articular cavity is now recognized to harbor microbial communities influencing osteoarthritis (OA). Integrating 16S rRNA sequencing and culturomics, Micrococcus luteus is enriched in advanced OA. Notably, M. luteus G18 exacerbates cartilage degeneration via TLR2/JNK/AP‐1‐mediated ECM disruption, revealing intra ...

The Effect of Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. and Enterobacteriaceae on the Development of Whey Protein Levels and Oxidative Stress Markers in Cows with Diagnosed Mastitis

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Mastitis is one of the most common diseases of high-yielding dairy cows, and over 90% of cases are caused by Streptococcus spp., Enterobacteriaceae, or Staphylococcus spp. Certain groups of proteins are very significant in terms of the cow’s antioxidant,

Impact of Prophylactic Cefepime on Surgical Site Infection and Severe Morbidity in Patients Who Underwent Pancreaticoduodenectomy With Preoperative Biliary Drainage

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Although prophylactic broad‐spectrum antibiotics can reduce postoperative complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), the optimal regimen remains uncertain. This study evaluated the impact of prophylactic cefepime (CFPM) on surgical site infection (SSI) and severe morbidity after PD with preoperative biliary drainage.
