Orlicz affine isoperimetric inequalities for star bodies

Advances in Applied Mathematics, 2022
Isoperimetric inequality is one of the most important and beautiful geometric inequalities and has a profound impact on geometry and analysis. It is well known that the classical isoperimetric inequality is equivalent to the Sobolev inequality. Unlike the classical isoperimetric inequality, affine isoperimetric inequalities are inequalities between a ...

Third Body Perturbations of Double Stars

Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, 1997
We report on the different results concerning the stability of the hierarchical triple systems where a close binary is accompanied by a third star. There are different possible approaches to answer the question of the stability limits for such triple stars: the most direct investigations can be undertaken in integrating numerically the respective ...

Stars and the Resurrection Body

1994
AbstractThis chapter examines Origen's understanding of the resurrected human soul. It is one of the most appropriate of speculations on the life of the heavens. He attempted to steer a middle course between the views of Christians that the resurrected body was no different from the physical body and the beliefs of a number of groups accused of heresy ...

Star body valued valuations

Indiana University Mathematics Journal, 2009
All linearly intertwining L p harmonic valuations on convex polytopes are completely classified for nonzero p. The only symmetric ones turn out to be the polar L p centroid bodies.

Random sections of star bodies

2023
This thesis concerns analytic and geometric aspects of random sections of star bodies and their implications for problems in stochastic geometry. We treat isoperimetric inequalities and distribution of volumes of such sections. In particular, we resolve a longstanding conjecture on affine isoperimetric inequalities in Lp spaces.

Stars, demons and the body in fifteenth-century England

Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part C: Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, 2010
In 1441, Eleanor Cobham, duchess of Gloucester, was arrested, together with three associates: Margery Jourdemayne, the 'Witch of Eye', Roger Bolingbroke, Oxford cleric and astrologer, and Thomas Southwell, MB, canon of St. Stephen's, Westminster. They were accused of plotting to kill King Henry VI by necromancy, but contemporary chronicles differed on ...
