A Study of Be Stars in Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1976
Calibrated spectrograms at Hα of 566 stars in 29 young galactic clusters led to the detection of 41 Be stars in clusters. Using cluster membership we have inferred ages and intrinsic (B – V) colors of Be stars to permit a discussion of their evolutionary states.Rotating stars can become Be stars in their early hydrogen burning evolution away from the ...

Probing the Faintest Stars in a Globular Star Cluster [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2006
NGC 6397 is the second closest globular star cluster to the Sun. Using 5 days of time on the Hubble Space Telescope, we have constructed an ultradeep color-magnitude diagram for this cluster. We see a clear truncation in each of its two major stellar sequences.

Sub-clinical abnormalities detected by PET/MRI in household tuberculosis contacts

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background The understanding of early events following TB exposure is limited by traditional tests that rely on detection of an immune response to infection, which is delayed, or on imaging tests with low sensitivity for early disease.

Simultaneous Estimates of Star-cluster Age, Metallicity, Mass, and Extinction (SESAMME). I. Presenting an MCMC Approach to Spectral Stellar Population Fitting

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present the first version release of SESAMME, a public, Python-based full spectrum fitting tool for Simultaneous Estimates of Star-cluster Age, Metallicity, Mass, and Extinction.

Lithopanspermia in Star-Forming Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesAstrobiology, 2005
This paper considers the lithopanspermia hypothesis in star forming groups and clusters, where the chances of biological material spreading from one solar system to another is greatly enhanced (relative to the field) due to the close proximity of the systems and lower relative velocities. These effects more than compensate for the reduced time spent in

The Star Formation History of the Milky Way’s Nuclear Star Cluster

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We report the first star formation history study of the Milky Ways nuclear star cluster (NSC), which includes observational constraints from a large sample of stellar metallicity measurements.

Intergalactic stars in the Fornax cluster [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1997
We have identified ten candidate intergalactic planetary nebulae in the Fornax galaxy cluster. These objects were found during observations in 1992 and 1993 in three fields chosen well away from any Fornax galaxy at 15 arcmin, 30 arcmin, and 45 arcmin from the centre of Fornax.

Identification of small molecules targeting homoserine acetyl transferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
There is an urgent need to validate new drug targets and identify small molecules that possess activity against both drug-resistant and drug-sensitive bacteria.
