Enzymatic carotenoid cleavage in star fruit (Averrhoa carambola)

Phytochemistry, 2003
This paper presents the first description of an enzyme fraction exhibiting carotenoid cleavage activity isolated from fruit skin of Averrhoa carambola. Partial purification of the enzyme could be achieved by acetone precipitation, ultrafiltration (300 kDa, 50 kDa), isoelectric focusing (pH 3-10) and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel ...

Acute oxalate nephropathy induced by star fruit in rats

American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2001
In this study, we intend to establish a connection between star fruit and acute oxalate nephropathy and also investigate predisposing factors for its development. Male Sprague-Dawley rats of 180 to 200 g were assigned to four groups; namely, control, experimental, fasting, and water-deprivation groups.

TRANSIENT INHIBITION OF CYP3A IN RATS BY STAR FRUIT JUICE

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 2006
Star fruit juice is a potent in vitro inhibitor of CYP3A; however, few reports are available on the inhibition of CYP3A activities by star fruit juice in vivo. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the CYP3A-mediated star fruit-drug interaction in vivo. The effect of star fruit juice on carbamazepine pharmacokinetics was examined in rats.
