Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Star Colouring Problem: The DNA Solution

open access: yesJournal of Algorithms & Computational Technology, 2011
In this paper, a DNA based computing model for solving the star coloring problem is proposed. This model shows how to use DNA strands to construct solution space of molecules for the star coloring problem and how to apply the DNA algorithm to solve the ...

A Novel Error Model of Optical Systems and an On-Orbit Calibration Method for Star Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2015
In order to improve the on-orbit measurement accuracy of star sensors, the effects of image-plane rotary error, image-plane tilt error and distortions of optical systems resulting from the on-orbit thermal environment were studied in this paper.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Star Clusters as Links between Galaxy Evolution and Star Formation Project. I. Numerical Method

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Stellar clusters are critical constituents within galaxies: They are the result of highest-density star formation, and through their spatially and temporally correlated feedback, they regulate their host galaxy evolution.

Guide Star Selection for the Three-FOV Daytime Star Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2019
To realize the application of the star sensor in the all-day carrier platform, a three-field-of-view (three-FOV) star sensor in short-wave infrared (SWIR) band is considered.

Lazarus Stars: Modeling and searching for engineered stars

open access: yes, 2023
The aging and gradual brightening of the Sun will challenge Earth’s habitability in the next few billion years. If life exists elsewhere in the Universe, the aging of its host star similarly poses an existential threat. One solution, which we dub a Lazarus star, is for an advanced civilization to remove (or star-lift) mass from their host star at a ...

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our
