Autonomous Star Tracker Performance
57th International Astronautical Congress, 2006Abstract First in NASA's New Frontiers series of missions, the New Horizons spacecraft was successfully launched on January 19, 2006. New Horizons is scheduled to perform a gravity assist at Jupiter on February 28, 2007, arrive at Pluto on July 14, 2015; completing an extended mission to at least one Kuiper Belt Object in subsequent years.

A high precision star tracker has been developed as part of the attitude measurement and control system of the German Roentgen-Satellit ("ROSAT"). A Peltier cooled CCD array in the focal plane of an 82 mm refractive lens is used to measure the position of up to 3 stars within a field of view (FOV) of 5.9° x 4.4°. The position of a fourth reference star

A fast recognition algorithm for star identification of star trackers
IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017This paper focuses on recognizing the correct match of star identification among multiple possible candidates for star trackers. Derived from the perturbation theory, a tolerance criterion is proposed and proved to check the correctness of the candidates.

Protection Scheme for Star Tracker Images
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2019Radiation effects in star trackers can cause malfunctions that may lead to the loss of communication with the satellite. This paper presents a scheme to protect star tracker images stored in memory against single event upsets (SEUs). Fault injection and resource utilization reports show that, with the protection technique, 99.98% of the SEUs can be ...

Autonomous Star Tracker Development
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992Abstract The attitude control, pointing control, and navigation systems of future advanced spacecraft will be characterized by a high degree of autonomy, very high accuracy, efficient commandability, and fast fault recovery. These characteristics are incompatible with the constraints of conventional star trackers which mandate a-priori definition and
