The ultraviolet signature of massive stars in starburst galaxies
Studies in different spectral regimes of starburst galaxies clearly indicate the presence of hot, massive stars. However, only the UV spectral region can be used to directly identify the spectroscopic signature of these stars.

The Delay Time Distribution of Tidal Disruption Events
Tidal disruption events (TDEs) can be observed when stars get too close to supermassive black holes and are torn apart and accreted. The delay time distribution of TDEs, or rate of TDEs as a function of time since a burst of star formation, can be used ...

Starbursts and Galaxy Evolution
Starbursts are extreme concentrations of star-forming activity with mass conversion surface densities reaching over 1000 times higher than normal for disk galaxies. They are responsible for a large fraction of all cosmic star formation. They have shaped the cosmic landscape not just in individual galaxies but though the effects of "superwinds" that ...

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN GALAXY MERGERS AND STARBURST: EVIDENCE FROM THE LOCAL UNIVERSE
Major mergers and interactions between gas-rich galaxies with comparable masses are thought to be the main triggers of starburst. In this work, we study, for a large stellar mass range, the interaction rate of the starburst galaxies in the local universe.

Massive dusty multiphase outflow in local merger shows no sign of slowing on kiloparsec scales
We use ALMA CO(1-0) observations and VLT/MUSE rest-frame optical data of the ultraluminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) IRAS20100-4156 at z = 0.1297 to characterize its powerful outflow in multiple phases using tracers of cold molecular, ionized, and neutral ...

A Multiwavelength Evaluation of AGN in the Post-starburst Phase
The quenching of star formation is a crucial phase in galaxy evolution. Although feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN) has been proposed as a key driver of this transition, the lack of strong AGN in nearby quenching galaxies raises questions about ...

Can Supernovae Quench Star Formation in High-z Galaxies?
JWST is providing a unique opportunity to directly study the feedback processes regulating star formation (SF) in early galaxies. The two z > 5 quiescent systems (JADES-GS-z7-01-QU and MACS0417-z5BBG) detected so far show a recent starburst after which ...

X-ray detections of submillimetre galaxies: active galactic nuclei versus starburst contribution
We present a large-scale study of the X-ray properties and near-IR-to-radio spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of submillimetre galaxies (SMGs) detected at 1.1 mm with the AzTEC instrument across a ∼1.2 square degree area of the sky. Combining deep 2–4
