An Extremely Compact, Low-mass Galaxy on its Way to Quiescence at z = 5.2
We report the discovery of a low-mass z = 5.200 ± 0.002 galaxy that is in the process of ceasing its star formation. The galaxy, MACS0417-z5BBG, is multiply imaged with magnification factors ∼40 by the galaxy cluster MACS J0417.5-1154, observed as part ...

Overtone Transition 2ν1 of HCO+ and HOC+: Origin, Radiative Lifetime, Collisional Quenching
The C−H/O−H stretch vibration overtone of one of the simplest molecular ion isomeric systems HCO+/HOC+ is studied in a cryogenic ion trap experiment. Moreover, our comprehensive “zero background” method enables the determination of radiative lifetimes and select quenching reaction rates at the same time.

Properties of the Hii Regions Derived Using Integral Field Spectroscopy
Here we review some of our more recent results on the observed properties of Hii regions using Integral Field Spectroscopy. In particular, we illustrate the use of this technique to study in detail the ionization conditions across the nebulae for galactic Hii regions (focused on the Orion Nebula) and the statistical study of large samples of ...

Are E+A Galaxies Dusty-Starbursts?: VLA 20cm Radio Continuum Observation
E+A galaxies are characterized as a galaxy with strong Balmer absorption lines but without any [OII] or Halpha emission lines. Strong Balmer absorption lines indicate that E+A galaxies have experienced a starburst within the last 100 Msun yr^-1) hidden ...

Two main physical processes characterize the activity in the nuclear region of active galaxies: an intense star formation (starburst, SB) and an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN).

Chemical Evolution of the Universe and its Consequences for Gravitational‐Wave Astrophysics
Population properties of double compact object mergers (especially binary black holes) are sensitive to the metallicity dependent cosmic star formation history. The uncertainty of this quantity cannot be ignored and makes the interpretation of current gravitational wave observations difficult.

The Study of Nebular Emission on Nearby Spiral Galaxies in the IFU Era
A new generation of wide‐field emission‐line surveys based on integral field units (IFU) is allowing us to obtain spatially resolved information of the gas‐phase emission in nearby late‐type galaxies, based on large samples of HII regions and full two‐dimensional coverage.

The Seyfert-Starburst Connection in X-rays. II. Results and Implications [PDF]
We present the results of X-ray imaging and spectroscopic analysis of a sample of Seyfert 2 galaxies that contain starbursts, based on their optical and UV characteristics. These composite galaxies exhibit extended, soft, thermal X-ray emission, which we

Cool Gas in the Circumgalactic Medium of Massive Post Starburst Galaxies
Observing the interplay between galaxies and their gaseous surroundings is crucial for understanding how galaxies form and evolve, including the roles of long-lived cool gas reservoirs, starburst and AGN driven outflows.

E+A galaxies represent a class of recently quenched objects, with spectra that show evidence of a previous substantial starburst and strong Balmer absorption lines indicative of A-type stellar populations.
