Active Star Coupler

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992
<div class="htmlview paragraph">APF (All Plastic Fiber) has high transmission loss and it is a disadvantage in the optical communication. If it has been used in an optical network with distributed signals, like star type, optical signals are reduced at the star coupler due to scattering loss and insertion loss caused by ray distribution ...

STAR: Sparse Thresholded Activation under partial-Regularization for Activation Sparsity Exploration

2023 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops (CVPRW), 2023
Brain-inspired event-driven processors execute deep neural networks (DNNs) in a sparsity-aware manner. Specifically, if more zeros are induced in the activation maps, less computation will be performed in the succeeding convolution layer. However, inducing activation sparsity in DNNs remains a challenge.

Active Hot Star Shells

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2003
Interferometry in the visible provides milliarcsecond spatial resolution and thus has been used for studying the circumstellar environment of active hot stars. In this paper I will illustrate how the visibility modulus and phase can be used to better constrain the physics of Be disks through results from the VLA, the MkII and the GI2T interferometers ...

Active neutron stars

Advances in Space Research, 1990
A review of some hard X-ray and gamma-ray sources is presented. These objects are strongly suspected to be associated with neutron stars. Examples include gamma ray bursters, soft gamma repeaters, the June 10, 1974 transient, and Geminga. It is argued that such objects probably constitute the majority of observable galactic neutron stars.

Active Be stars

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1983
Intensifier director scanner H-alpha profiles are presented of the bright northern Be stars, which have recently developed significant emission line variability. These stars are candidates for intensive spectroscopic, photometric, and polarimetric observations during the current season.

Magnetic Activity in Cool Stars

Space Science Reviews, 1985
Aspects of magnetic activity of late-type stars are reviewed: first, results obtained through the comparison of emissions from various temperature regimes in the outer atmospheres of cool stars, then results from stellar soft X-ray spectroscopy. Spectra obtained with different instruments (Imaging Proportional Counter and Solid State Spectrometer ...

The Magnetic Activity Sunlike Stars

Science, 1984
Sunspots, flares, and the myriad time-varying "events" observable in the Sun—the only star whose surface we can examine in detail—are testimony that the Sun is a magnetically variable or active star. Its magnetic field, carried into interplanetary space by the solar wind, produces observable changes in Earth's magnetosphere and variations in the flux ...

Green Star is not a physical activity star

Facilities, 2017
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to report on research investigating the relationship between physical activity and workplace design. In particular, the paper explores the social–ecological context of a new workplace building. This paper seeks to understand why better physical activity outcomes for the staff were not observed in the new building ...
