Contrasting strategies in morphological and physiological response to drought stress among temperate forest understory forbs and graminoids

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Under drought stress, temperate forest understorey forbs prioritize biomass and leaf area retention, while graminoids enhance water‐use efficiency and photoprotection for survival. Abstract Drought stress can profoundly affect plant growth and physiological vitality, yet there is a notable scarcity of controlled drought experiments focused on ...

Participatory evaluation of biochar‐based fertilizer application: Effects on soil properties, yield, and yield components of bread wheat in acidic Nitisols

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract A participatory field experiment was conducted during the 2024 main cropping season in collaboration with local farmers who jointly managed and evaluated the trials. The experiment aims to evaluate the effects of biochar‐based fertilizer (BBF) on soil properties and bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) productivity grown on acidic Nitisols.

The Link between Barium Stars and Optically Bright Post-AGB Binaries [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1997
Systematic radial velocity monitoring programs revealed that all optically bright, high-latitude post-AGB stars that show a near-IR excess in their energy distribution are binaries (see the contribution of R. Waters et al. in these proceedings). A standard AGB evolution for the shorter period objects seems, however, impossible since the orbits are too ...

Remote sensing and geospatial analysis for the study of plant community regeneration in human‐modified landscapes

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Natural regeneration is essential for maintaining functionally diverse and resilient plant communities in human‐modified landscapes. To design and implement successful conservation and restoration initiatives in these landscapes, research on the environmental and anthropogenic drivers of natural regeneration must be scaled up beyond ...

Assessment of the Spatiotemporal Patterns and Ecological Impacts of Photovoltaic Power Plants in Central Asia

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Photovoltaic (PV) power plants rapidly expand in drylands because of the high solar potential and efficient land‐use capabilities. However, existing PV data sets are often incomplete and lack installation timestamps, which significantly hinder comprehensive assessments of PV power plants' ecological impacts. By integrating a random forest (RF)

Above and Belowground Plasticity Traits Allow Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Cultivation Under Low‐Input Water Management in Three Mediterranean Environments

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Volume 212, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Biofuels can play an important role to reduce fossil fuels consumption and decrease carbon dioxide emissions. However, current biofuels derived from food crops can exacerbate food security concerns due to their competition for cropland and resources.

Binary post-AGB stars and their Keplerian discs

open access: yes, 2006
In this contribution we give a progress report on our systematic study of a large sample of post-AGB stars. The sample stars were selected on the basis of their infrared colours and the selection criteria were tuned to discover objects with hot dust in the system.

Spectroscopic Masses for post-AGB Stars and Planetary Nebula Nuclei [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2003
We compare the observed positions of post-AGB stars and planetary nebula nuclei in the log g and Teff diagram. We show that these positions and the resulting stellar masses are not fully consistent with theoretical expectations.

Vertical Trait Variation Modulates Forest Biomass Dynamics in Two Japanese Forest Types

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 37, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
This study examined aboveground biomass (AGB) dynamics and community‐weighted mean (CWM) values of four functional traits across three forest layers in two temperate forest types. The results showed that the relationships between CWM traits and AGB dynamics differ among vertical layers, highlighting the importance of vertical heterogeneity in trait ...
