A plethora of new, magnetic chemically peculiar stars from LAMOST DR4 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
Context. Magnetic chemically peculiar (mCP) stars are important to astrophysics because their complex atmospheres lend themselves perfectly to the investigation of the interplay between such diverse phenomena as atomic diffusion, magnetic fields, and ...

GHOST Commissioning Science Results: Identifying a New Chemically Peculiar Star in Reticulum II [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2023
The Gemini High-resolution Optical SpecTrograph (GHOST) is the newest high-resolution spectrograph to be developed for a large-aperture telescope, recently deployed and commissioned at the Gemini-South telescope.

New magnetic chemically peculiar stars [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2006
Our observations with the 6-m telescope revealed six new magnetic chemically peculiar (CP) stars among objects with large depressions in the continuum: HDE 293764, BD+17°3622, HD 169887, HDE 231054, HDE 338226, and HDE 343872. The presence of a magnetic field is suspected in several other CP stars.

HVS 7: a chemically peculiar hyper-velocity star [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2008
Context: Hyper-velocity stars are suggested to originate from the dynamical interaction of binary stars with the supermassive black hole in the Galactic centre (GC), which accelerates one component of the binary to beyond the Galactic escape velocity. Aims: The evolutionary status and GC origin of the HVS SDSS J113312.12+010824.9 (HVS7) is constrained ...

Horizontal flows in the atmospheres of chemically peculiar stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Classical chemically peculiar stars exhibit atmospheres that are often structured by the effects of atomic diffusion. As a result of these elemental diffusion and horizontal abundance variations, the photospheric temperature varies at a given height in ...

Chemically peculiar stars on the pre-main sequence [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The chemically peculiar (CP) stars of the upper main sequence are defined by spectral peculiarities that indicate unusual elemental abundance patterns in the presence of diffusion in the calm, stellar atmospheres.
