Oscillations of rotating neutron stars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
AbstractWe use a perturbation technique to compute the rotational corrections to the non-radial oscillation spectrum of a realistic neutron-star model. We compute, to first order in the rotation rate, the corrections to the normal mode eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions.

Torsional oscillations of magnetized relativistic stars [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2001
Strong magnetic fields in relativistic stars can be a cause of crust fracturing, resulting in the excitation of global torsional oscillations. Such oscillations could become observable in gravitational waves or in high-energy radiation, thus becoming a tool for probing the equation of state of relativistic stars.

Non-Radial Oscillations in δ Scuti Stars and Rapidly Oscillating AP Stars [PDF]

open access: yesHighlights of Astronomy, 1986
AbstractThe present state of our knowledge of non-radial oscillations in δ Scuti stars and Rapidly Oscillating Ap stars is discussed primarily from an observational point of view. For the δ Scuti stars the need for complete frequency solutions for multi-periodic non-radial oscillating stars is emphasized in order for stellar seismology of these stars ...

TORSIONAL OSCILLATIONS OF NONBARE STRANGE STARS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
Strange stars are one of the possible compact stellar objects that can be formed after a supernova collapse. We consider a model of strange star having an inner core in the color-flavor locked phase surmounted by a crystalline color superconducting layer.

Theory and evidence of global Rossby waves in upper main-sequence stars: r-mode oscillations in many Kepler stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Asteroseismic inference from pressure modes (p modes) and buoyancy, or gravity, modes (g modes) is ubiquitous for stars across the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram. Until now, however, discussion of r modes (global Rossby waves) has been rare.

On the oscillation spectra of ultra compact stars [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1995
Abstract Quasi-normal modes of ultra compact stars with uniform energy density have been calculated. For less compact stars, there is only one very slowly damped polar mode (corresponding to the Kelvin f-mode) for each spherical harmonic index l.

Search for Oscillations in Some Ap Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1988
Photometric observations of some Ap stars with a 50 cm telescope have been carried out at Izaña (Tenerife) in February 1986. The stars observed were, generally, magnetic - cool Ap stars. A search for global oscillations in the range 3 to 15 minutes has been undertaken and they seem to be present in some of the stars observed.

Oscillating Star Formation [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1986
As a consequence of positive feedback effects in interstellar chemical and star forming processes, a star formation region may undergo nonlinear oscillations.

Discrimination of Quark Stars from Neutron Stars in Quadrupole Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics, 2002
The frequencies and damping times due to gravitational radiation are calculated for self-bound quark star models. The results are compared with those for neutron star models. They are markedly contrasted in less relativistic cases. The distinction derived here from a simple model of quark stars may be relevant to the future theoretical and ...
