Learning about the latitudinal distribution of starspots through the periodogram analysis of photometric data

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Starspots are cooler and darker than the stellar surface. Therefore, the emitted flux of a star changes when spots are visible on its surface. The presence of spots together with the stellar rotation leads to a periodic modulation on the light curve.

Polka-dotted Stars. II. Starspots and Obliquities of Kepler-17 and Kepler-63

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Starspots trace stellar magnetic activity and affect both stellar evolution and exoplanet characterization. While occultation-based spot studies have been applied to individual systems, comparative analyses remain limited.

Computational starspot photometry of contact binary stars

open access: yes, 2007
Starspots are not well understood for contact binary star systems. The following properties of spots were systematically investigated: temperature, radius, colatitude, and longitude. Spots were modeled on an AE Phe like contact binary system.

The Effect of Starspots on Spectroscopic Age and Mass Estimates of Nonaccreting T Tauri Stars in the Taurus–Auriga Star-forming Region

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Accurate age and mass determinations for young pre-main-sequence stars are made challenging by the presence of large-scale starspots. We present results from a near-infrared spectroscopic survey of 10 T-Tauri Stars in Taurus-Auriga that characterize spot-

Multiwavelength Campaign Observations of a Young Solar-type Star, EK Draconis. III. Comparison between Starspot Mapping, Zeeman Doppler Imaging, and Multiwavelength Variability

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent simultaneous multiwavelength observations of a nearby young solar-type star EK Draconis (EK Dra) in the optical, H α spectrum, and X-ray, have provided evidence for stellar prominence eruptions associated with superflares.
