Activation of transcription factors STAT1 and STAT5 in the mouse median eminence after systemic ciliary neurotrophic factor administration.

Brain Research, 2015
Exogenously administered ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) causes weight loss in obese rodents and humans through leptin-like activation of the Jak-STAT3 signaling pathway in hypothalamic arcuate neurons. Here we report for the first time that 40min after acute systemic treatment, rat recombinant CNTF (intraperitoneal injection of 0.3mg/kg of body ...

Stat5 opposes the transcription factor Tox and rewires exhausted CD8+ T cells toward durable effector-like states during chronic antigen exposure.

Immunity, 2023
Rewiring exhausted CD8+ T (Tex) cells toward functional states remains a therapeutic challenge. Tex cells are epigenetically programmed by the transcription factor Tox.

Transcription factor Stat5 is an early marker of differentiation of murine embryonic stem cells.

Differentiation, 1998
Embryonic stem (ES) cells are pluripotent descendants of the inner cell mass of blastocysts capable of differentiating into progenitor cells of most if not all tissues. The pluripotency of ES cells is maintained by leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), a member of the family of interleukin-6-type cytokines.

Nuclear translocation of the transcription factor STAT5 in the rat brain after systemic leptin administration.

Neuroscience Letters, 2007
Leptin binding to its functional receptor stimulates JAK-STAT-signaling pathway, which finally results in activation and nuclear translocation of transcription factors of the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) family, namely of STAT3.

Physical and Functional Interactions between STAT5 and Runx Transcription Factors

The Journal of Biochemistry, 2008
The signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) and the Runt-related (Runx) are two of major transcription factor families that play essential roles in lymphocyte development. Although the interaction of Runx2 with STAT1 and STAT3 has been reported before, the interaction between STAT5 and Runx family proteins has not been characterized ...

A role for the transcription factor STAT5 in antagonizing CD8+ T cell exhaustion

The Journal of Immunology, 2021
Abstract Exhaustion gradually establishes in chronically stimulated CD8s and this process is not reverted by current therapeutic approaches due to establishment of a stable epigenetic program. Recent advances have informed on the developmental process of exhaustion and highlighted TOX as a key lineage-defining TF in the process.

The role of Stat5 transcription factors as tumor suppressors or oncogenes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Reviews on Cancer, 2011
Stat5 is constitutively activated in many human cancers affecting the expression of cell proliferation and cell survival controlling genes. These oncogenic functions of Stat5 have been elegantly reproduced in mouse models. Aberrant Stat5 activity induces also mitochondrial dysfunction and reactive oxygen species leading to DNA damage.

Transcription Factor Dosage: Maximal STAT5-Induced Proliferation and Stem Cell Self-Renewal at Intermediate STAT5 Activity Levels.

Blood, 2007
Abstract The level of transcription factor activity critically regulates cell fate decisions such as hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and differentiation. Here, we describe a model in which STAT5 activity is introduced into human hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells in a dose-dependent manner by overexpression of tamoxifen-inducible ...

Interleukin‐2 family cytokines stimulate phosphorylation of the Pro‐Ser‐Pro motif of Stat5 transcription factors in human T cells: resistance to suppression of multiple serine kinase pathways

Journal of Leukocyte Biology, 2002
Signal transducer and activator of transcription (Stat)5a and Stat5b are critical for normal immune function. Progression of T cells through G1‐S phase of cell cycle requires T cell receptor (TCR)‐ and/or cytokine‐inducible tyrosine phosphorylation of ...

Thymocytes are activated by toluene inhalation through the transcription factors NF‐κB, STAT5 and NF‐AT

Journal of Applied Toxicology, 2010
AbstractToluene has been extensively examined for effects on the central nervous system. To investigate the influence of low‐level inhalation of toluene on the naive immune cells, male C3H/HeN mice were exposed to filtered air (control) and 50 ppm of toluene for 3 weeks. Low‐level exposure resulted in (1) increased proliferation of thymocytes, (2) IL‐2
