Voltage flicker compensation using STATCOM

2009 4th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2009
Voltage flicker is considered as one of the most severe power quality problems (especially in loads like electrical arc furnaces) and much attention has been paid to it lately. Due to the latest achievements in the semiconductors industry and consequently the emergence of the compensators based on voltage source converters, FACTS devices have been ...

Dissipativity-based control for STATCOM

PowerTech Budapest 99. Abstract Records. (Cat. No.99EX376), 2003
This paper describes a dissipativity-based approach for the dynamic control of FACTS devices based on voltage source inverters (VSI), such as STATCOM and UPFC. The main goal of the approach is to achieve the AC current and DC voltage regulation by shaping the energy of the closed-loop system, similarly to Lyapunov techniques.

Sliding Mode Control Based STATCOM

2018 International Multi-Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies (FarEastCon), 2018
At present, power system networks are saturated with non-linear, asymmetric electrical receivers. It leads to a decrease in the power quality at the points of common coupling. A promising device serving to improve the power quality is a static reactive power compensator (STATCOM).

Non Linear Control of STATCOM

2010 International Conference on Recent Trends in Information, Telecommunication and Computing, 2010
This paper presents an investigation on a voltage regulator for parallel operated isolated synchronous generators supplying 3-phase 4-wire loads driven by constant speed prime mover like diesel engine, bio-mass, gasoline, hydro turbine unit etc. The proposed voltage regulator is realized using a STATCOM (static compensator) for providing the reactive ...

Multilevel Converter Topologies for STATCOMs

2014
To implement the STATCOMs for transmission and distribution applications, high power converters are needed. A multilevel converter is a logical choice for such applications as it can meet the imposed line side current and voltage harmonic distortion standards without extending its device ratings.
