The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Enhanced Virtual Synchronous Generator with Angular Frequency Deviation Feedforward and Energy Recovery Control for Energy Storage System

open access: yesMathematics
Frequency control is one of the most important tasks in electric power systems. At the same time, in modern power systems with inertia-free converter-interfaced generation, this task has become more complex.

The Mixed State of Charge-Density-Wave in a Ring-Shaped Single Crystals

open access: yes, 2007
Charge-density-wave (CDW) phase transition in a ring-shaped crystals, recently synthesized by Tanda et al. [Nature, 417, 397 (2002)], is studied based on a mean-field-approximation of Ginzburg-Landau free energy.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Stealing Our Smarts: Indigenous knowledge in On-Line Learning

open access: yesSeminar.net, 2005
Tell me what you know….Knowledge  and knowing can be a very tricky thing.  Reflect on what you are fairly certain that you know. Self-certainty in human knowledge is a function of metacognition primarily.

Equalization Algorithm for Distributed Energy Storage Systems in Islanded AC Microgrids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents a centralized strategy for equalizing the state of charge of distributed energy storage systems in an islanded ac microgrid. The strategy is based on a simple algorithm denoted as equalization algorithm, which modifies the charge or ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Sequential Monte Carlo Methods for Discharge Time Prognosis in Lithium-ion Batteries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2012
This paper presents the implementation of a particle-filtering-based prognostic framework that allows estimating the state-of-charge (SOC) and predicting the discharge time of energy storage devices (more specifically lithium-ion batteries). The proposed

Estimasi State-Of-Charge Menggunakan Simulink Pada Baterai Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya

Spatially inhomogeneous states of charge carriers in graphene

open access: yesJETP Letters, 2007
We study an interaction of 2D quasiparticles with linear dispersion (graphene) with impurity potentials. It is shown that in 1D potential well (quantum wire) there are discrete levels, corresponding to localized states, whereas in 2D well (quantum dot) there are no such states.
