A robust extended Kalman filter (EKF) is proposed as a method for estimation of the state of charge (SOC) of lithium-ion batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). An equivalent circuit model of the battery, including its electromotive force (EMF)

State-of-Charge Monitoring and Battery Diagnosis of NiCd Cells Using Impedance Spectroscopy
With respect to aeronautical applications, the state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) of rechargeable nickel−cadmium batteries was investigated with the help of the frequency-dependent reactance Im Z(ω) and the pseudo-capacitance C ...

Spatially inhomogeneous states of charge carriers in graphene
We study an interaction of 2D quasiparticles with linear dispersion (graphene) with impurity potentials. It is shown that in 1D potential well (quantum wire) there are discrete levels, corresponding to localized states, whereas in 2D well (quantum dot) there are no such states.

Producing Cluster States in Charge Qubits and Flux Qubits [PDF]
We propose a method to efficiently generate cluster states in charge qubits, both semiconducting and superconducting, as well as flux qubits. We show that highly-entangled cluster states can be realized by a `one-touch' entanglement operation by tuning gate bias voltages for charge qubits.

Design of the VRLA Battery Real-Time Monitoring System Based on Wireless Communication
The VRLA (valve-regulated lead-acid) battery is an important part of a direct current (DC) power system. In order to resolve issues of large volume, complicated wiring, and single function for a battery monitoring system at present, we propose to build a

Smart and Accurate State-of-Charge Indication In Portable Applications [PDF]
Accurate state-of-charge (SoC) and remaining run-time indication for portable devices is important for the user-convenience and to prolong the lifetime of batteries. However, the known methods of SoC indication in portable applications are not accurate enough under all practical conditions.

Distributed control strategy of hybrid energy storage system in the DC microgrid
In a DC microgrid, because the output of renewable energy such as photovoltaic is intermittent, hybrid energy storage system (HESS) combining ultracapacitors and batteries is usually used to solve this issue.
