, 2005 네덜란드의 복지국가는 늦게 출발하였지만 가장 빨리 발전한 사례로서, 코포라티즘이라는 네덜란드 특유의 정치제도가 복지국가의 발전과정에 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 코포라티즘의 성격과 환경변화에 따라 복지국가의 제도와 성격이 변화하였기 때문이다. 역사적으로 종교적 동원에 기초하여 자유주의적 성격의 코포라티즘과 복지국가가 형성되었는데, 네덜란드의 코포라티즘은 1950년대까지 보편적 복지국가의 발전을 가로막는 중요한요인으로 작용하였다.
