Productivity Growth, Technological Progress, and Technical Efficiency in the Heartland and Southern Cotton States:1996-1999. [PDF]

open access: yes
Given recent concerns expressed about the structural transformation of agriculture and the health of the family farm this study provides a measure of the economic health of small and large farms at the state level.

Bidirectionally Thermochromic Nanocolloid System for on‐Demand Optical Switching and Agricultural Energy Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bidirectionally thermochromic nanocolloid system is developed for facility agriculture. The bidirectional and wide‐temperature response dynamically modulates light radiation, stabilizing the indoor climate, improving supplemental lighting efficiency, and accelerating plant photosynthesis.

Meat production in the individual and public sectors of agriculture in the Urals in 1946–1965

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений. Поволжский регион: Гуманитарные науки

United States dairy farms and global warming

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
Several metrics have developed for combining the warming effects of various greenhouse gases (GHG). The metric used can affect the life cycle assessment and comparison of dairy production systems due to the weighting placed on long- versus short-lived gases in the atmosphere.

Creating Cell‐Based Hybrid Noodles for Sustainable and Nutrient‐Balanced Diets via a Serum‐Free and Animal‐Free 3D Co‐Differentiation System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a 3D co‐culture and co‐differentiation system for porcine muscle stem cells (pMuSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (pMSCs) on edible starch‐based scaffolds. The system simultaneously generates myotubes and adipocytes without using serum or chemical inducers.

Studies on greenhouse gas emissions in organic and conventional dairy farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In Germany agriculture is responsible for 14 % of the whole greenhouse gas (GHG) emis-sions. A considerable portion (30 %) of the emissions is caused by dairy farming. Recent discussions about this issue show that there is a lack of solid data.

Genetic Control of Tissue Remodeling by a Non‐Coding SNP in ITGA8 Explains Carotenoid‐Based Color Polymorphism in Marine Mollusks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, the orange‐muscle giant abalone (Haliotis gigantea) is used as a model to identify a non‐coding SNP that disrupts the interaction between ITGA8 pre‐mRNA and the splicing factor ILF2, leading to altered ITGA8 splicing. These splicing changes promote carotenoid accumulation in abalone muscle through the regulation of tissue remodeling ...

Steady-state security in distribution networks with large wind farms

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2014
Aging network assets, forced and unforced outages, and the way the networks are operated in a deregulated market are of significant concerns to integrate large wind farms in a distribution network.
