AbstractThis chapter compares the European disclosure standard for significant holdings to similar disclosure standards in the US. The empirical results confirm that there are few significant blocks held in the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ‐listed companies, putting corporate control into the hand of incumbent boards and/or management.

FARMLAND OWNERSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES.

1983
Over 83 percent of the farmland in private ownership in 1978 was held by sole proprietors, husbands and wives, or family partnerships. Nonfamily corporations owned less than 4 percent of the farmland but reported an average of 520 acres per owner compared to 129 for individual and family ownerships.

Private and State Ownership in Telecommunications

This study compared the performance of the Philippine private telecommunications company, the PLDT, and the São Paulo state company, Telesp. The poor performance of the PLDT can be attributed to ineffective political and regulatory institutions resulting in increased political patronage and uncertainty.
