Identity Impermanence as a Generic Social Process: The Malleability of Gender in Transgender and Nonbinary People's Lives

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
Drawing on 40 in‐depth interviews with transgender and nonbinary people, we found that respondents' gender identities or displays shifted day‐by‐day and audience‐by‐audience. The first describes respondents shifting their identities and displays based on feeling their way through gender while the latter describes feeling out an audience.

GeoMamba: Towards Multi-granular POI Recommendation with Geographical State Space Model

open access: yes
Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendation plays an important role in a wide range of location-based social network ap- plications, aiming to accurately predicting users’ next visits based on their historical check-in records. Previous efforts have primarily

An Incremental State Space Modelling Method of Power Systems Based on Measured Components Impedance Matrices in Local dq Frames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
State space model (SSM)-based eigenvalues analysis method has been widely used to analyze stability issue of power electronics-dominated power systems. One important advantage of it is to perform participation factor analysis, so oscillation source can ...

Integrating multiple surveys using state–space models improves inference of population trends for Illinois furbearers

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Long‐term population monitoring is fundamental to wildlife population management. Furbearer populations are often surveyed using multiple methods, but many estimates of their abundance, especially abundance indices, do not account for detection error, and lead to conflicting interpretations of population trends.

Nocturnal neighbors: exploring residents' perceptions of urban wildlife related to animal traits identified by camera traps and literature

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Wildlife in urban areas is often a source of conflict, yet relatively few efforts have been directed toward fostering coexistence in these human‐dominated landscapes. While previous research has focused on socio‐demographic factors influencing perceptions of wildlife, the role of specific animal traits in shaping acceptance remains underexplored.

Effects of environmental factors on arsenic accumulation in rice under field conditions using a Bayesian state space model

open access: yesScientific Reports
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major dietary source of arsenic (As) for humans. Understanding the mechanisms of As accumulation in rice is essential for mitigating human exposure. However, the effects of environmental factors on As accumulation in rice have
